Mr. Lenihan is going to do our drum line auditions on May 29th from 1:20-3:00 in the band room.
There is a sign-up list on my office door. Music should be available on the sink in the band

the audition. There will be a sign-in form at the audition that you can specify other
instruments you want to play.

Please be here 10 minutes before your audition time in case we are running early.

Pit auditions- Prepare a 3 minute piece of your choice, and be prepared to sight-read a short
selection.

Cymbal auditions- Will only be asked to sight-read.

Please spread the word to people you know are interested in being on the line next year.

All Percussion- Rehearsal is scheduled for Wednesday, March 12th from 7:30-8:30pm in the
bandroom. I know this is different from what we discussed at the last rehearsal, but due to
unforseen circumstances Wednesday will have to be the rehearsal time just for this week. Heather
and Pat I understand that you may have a conflict that night. Everyone please look over your
parts so we can put this all together quickly. If you do not have a part, find someone and get a
copy. Please email me at lenahanmatt@yahoo.com if you cannot make it. Sarrah would you copy and
past this into the Facebook message we were discussing at rehearsal please. Everyone pass this
message along to all percussion who may not recieve the email updates. Hope to see everyone on
Wednesday.

Mr. Lenahan

email. I would like to have as many of you attend as possible. As per a previous email from Mrs.
Carson, she would like the drumline prepared to play by rehearsal on April 18th. If you cannot
make rehearsal next Tuesday would you please email me at lenahanmatt@yahoo.com.

Hope to see you all there-

Mr. Lenahan

Hello Percussionist- There is music in the bandroom for you to pick up. This music could be used
for the Extravaganza, but mainly for an opportunity to get together and do some playing.
Freshman percussion should pick up a mallet part. This piece is titled "08 Magic" which I
adapted from a piece titled "Island Magic" by Dave Weckl. The original piece is in 7/8, but I
adapted the melody to be able to play it in 4/4 time. The "Open Solo" section will be discussed
at rehearsal. Mallet players if you want a reference for the melody, try searching the internet.
You should be able to find an audio clip. Look over the parts and lets think about getting
together the first week or two of March. I will talk with Sarrah about getting an idea on
availability for rehearsal times. Most likely it will be an after school time. I look forward to
seeing everyone.

Thanks

Mr. Lenahan

Hey guys and gals. Here is a message from Mrs. Carson about Extravaganza:

Will you tell the drumline that the Extravaganza theme is "Spice Up Your Life" based on the
Spice Girls...if the say UGH tell them it was not my first choice :)
I would like for them to be ready by our cleaning rehearsal on April 18th so that we can time
their performance. They will also be involved in cuttings just like always.
Any thoughts on next year's marching show? I am starting to plan my budget (need to keep it
small with Florida). How about Latin?
Lisa

11/13/07-

All percussion including 1st and 5th hour- I would like to have a short meeting of 10-15 minutes
with you this Thursday morning at 7:15am in the band room. Please be there if you can.

Thanks-
Mr. Lenahan

11/2/07

Drumline/Pit- Hey I can't say enough about how proud everyone is right now. You all did an
outstanding job at Warrensburg. The prelim show was tight and then you gave a second stellar
performance for the finals with amazing energy. Placing 7th out of 18 drumlines was incredible.
What an excellent ending to a very productive musical season. Enjoy your success. Hats off to
Austin who gave 110% despite the pain.

I would like to have a short meeting, not this coming week but the next, about the winter and
spring ideas we have been tossing around about the spring extravaganza, etc. Freshman percussion
will also be involved in this. I will get the word out sometime next week about a meeting time.

Thank you for all of your efforts, it was a privledge working with you this season.

Mr. Lenahan

Drumline/Pit- Excellent show at the SM Marching Festival last night! Everyone enjoyed the after
show also. Your level of performance stood out. We will rehearse the line and pit Tuesday at
6:30am. Feel better Austin.

Drumline- Congratulations on your last home football show! Special congratulations to all the
Seniors also. Rehearsal schedule for this week is as follows. First hour drumline and pit 6:30am

10/17/07

First hour drumline- everyone please be on time for our morning sectional at 6:30am. Be prepared
to discuss a possible evening sectional next Monday night from 7:30-9pm. Pit- I will talk to you
tomorrow about a sectional time for you.

Mr. Lenahan

Percussion- AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!!!AHHHHHHHH!!! Okay so the show was great, and then you
knock the crowd out with the routine at the end. Nice work everyone! Pit- You kept Echano moving
right along and the pit break in Chuck Corea was right on. Nick- nice job adding in the bongo
part. Drumline- you guys have really continued to step it up. Keep those game faces on. I was
very impressed with the routine that you performed after the show. Your enthusiasm shows
thorough in your playing and it is motivating to the band and the crowd. Excellent team effort!
I will see the line at 6:30am inside for rehearsal on Tuesday. Enjoy your weekend.

Mr. Lenahan

9/30/07

Percussion- Congratulations on an successful weekend! I heard nothing but great comments about
the show on Friday, and I got to see you perform very well at the parade on Saturday. I was
impressed with how well you pulled off the new cadence with only having the music for 4 days. I
was equally impressed with the small modifications you made to the cadence in order to perform
it. Your dedication to sectional time and giving 110% effort in rehearsal is paying off. The
line and pit has great momentum that I am sure you want to continue through the season. We will
have sectionals at 6:30am on Tuesday for the first hour drum line. We will be indoors working
on "One more time" and running over the new cadence. Pit- I will talk to you guys on Tuesday at
regular rehearsal time about a sectional time for you.

A message from Sarrah,

Dear Drumline,

I cannot tell you how excited and happy I am for what we did at the rehearsal today and then at
the game tonight. Everyone stepped up to the bar we're raising, and it made things ten thousand
times better than they have ever been. We've received a ton of compliments on our second
cadence (Thanks to Mr. Lenahan for that!) and everyone I talked to LOVED the spirit and
liveliness we put into performing it. (Peter, I hope you taped it!) We have all come so very
far from where we started this year. I am extremely proud of you guys, I'm proud of the work
we've done so far, and I'm excited for where I know we can end up. Thank you so much for all the
work you've done so far. You deserve to be happy with the things you have accomplished, we
could not have done it without every individual's commitment and hard work. So be happy with
how we played, but know that because we have accomplished so much, we will be trying to push it
even more in the coming weeks. Again, I am so proud of you, I am so proud of us. Keep up the
outstanding work, and I think we will all be amazed at what we can do.
Lots of Love,
Sarrah

Thank you very much!!! As you can see, I'm in a great great great mood and I'm so so so so so
HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!

:)

Percussionists- Congratulations on a great show Thursday night. I was very impressed with your
performance. Bd line, your sectionals paid off. The entire line was playing with confidence,
which really drove the band and kept the energy level of the pieces. Some of the marching issues
we addressed on Tuesday came out looking good. Pit, you did a nice job of getting into the music
and driving the solo section in Echano. Continue to play out with confidence. I will see 1st
percussion (no pit) Tuesday morning at 6:30am for rehearsal. Continue to organize your own
sectionals as schedules allow. Even a short 20-30 minute focused rehearsal can reap major
benefits.

Have a great weekend-
Mr. Lenahan

Percussionists, I just wanted to say how impressed I was with your work at the game. At one
point, I was watching the line marching one of the drills and I couldn't take my eyes off it.
You all looked so crisp in your marching and the playing was great. That dangerous area
in "Echano" with the pit went quite well. Our next step is to increase the volume while keeping
the accuracy. We need to sound like there are ten keyboards out there. Also, thanks to those
of you who stayed around after school to work on the drum room. The percussion section seems to
be setting the bar for the whole band. Thanks for your efforts!

Mr. Adams

1st hour percussion- Rehearsal starts at 6:30am Tuesday and Friday only. Regular rehearsal time
on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The pit can show up at regular rehearsal time Monday-Friday.
Please be ready to start on time.

Mr. Lenahan
lenahanmatt@yahoo.com

1st hour Percussion- Here is the link to hear 3 of the 4 tunes we are playing. Go to
http://www.msconcepts.com/Music/music-list.asp, and use the search engine to find the tunes. You
will not find a music sample of "One More time, Chuck Corea". You will need some type of mp3
software to play them.

Curtis Langley was the first person to answer my trivia question about the new cadence, "Squib
Cakes". It is based off of two tunes by a 70's funk/horn band called "Tower of Power". Elements
from the tunes "Squib Cakes" and "Oakland Stroke" were the inspiration for the cadence. David
Garibaldi is the incredible funk drummer on these tunes. If you are interested in funk drumming
you need to check him out on any of T.O.P.'s early recordings.

Freshmen percussionist excellent job last week during camp. You all did an excellent job of
learning your parts and putting the pre-game show together. Thank you for your hard work and
enjoy the rest of you summer.

Mr. Lenahan
