5/6/13

Tuesday is the absolute deadline for Evening of Jazz shirt orders.  Checks can come later in the week but she needs the sizes tomorrow.

Push those tickets!  Lets get a big enthusiastic audience.  They will only come if you ask them to come!

Be there to setup the gig at 5:45 Tuesday night.  We play from 6:15 to 7:00.  Dress in Green and khaki.

Seniors-We will have required Evening of Jazz rehearsals this Thursday and next Thursday from 10:55-12:30 and next Friday (5/17) from 10:25-11:20.  Setup will be from 9:30 until done on Sat., 5/18.  We warm-up that night at 7:00PM.  Everyone stays to clean up.  Seniors will not have to come back to file music.  We will take care of that.

4/12/13

Jazz on the Bridge is on Friday, 4/19, at SM West.  We meet in the West band room at 7:15 for our warm-up.  We play at 7:45.  Jim Mair, an amazing alto player is guest soloing with West at 8:45.  They are serving BBQ if you come hungry.

3/6/13

Jazz Band members will leave class on Thursday at 11:45 to load the bus.  We want to leave as close to noon as possible.  We will then get lunch then travel to the Expocentre in Topeka.  I want to be there by 2:30 for the 3:00 game.  At the end of the game, we will check in at the Ramada Inn (address below).  We will then get dinner and return to the hotel.  Yes, there is a pool.  Bed check at 11:00.

If we win Thursday's game:
After a lazy morning which includes a free breakfast at the hotel, we will checkout around 11:30 and head for lunch.  Next stop, the Kansas History Museum.  It is really pretty cool.  Then, maybe the mall.  On from there to the Friday game which starts at 4:45.  After the game, we come home.

If we win on Friday, we will load the bus at 4PM on Saturday at South and head for the 6:15 championship game in Topeka.  We will grab fast food before or after the game.

*If we lose Thursday's game, we will still spend the night then come home around 9:30 in the morning straight to school.
**If we lose Friday's game, we will not return on Saturday.

Our hotel:-Ramada Convention Center Downtown Topeka-420 Southeast 6th Ave, Topeka, KS 66607
Dress-normal pep band dress-jazz shirt and jeans are fine.  You might want to bring a non-uniform change of clothes and a swim suit.
Cost-hotel, bus, admissions are covered.  Up to four meals need to be covered by students.  I hope to cover one of those.

2/27/13

We do play at the game tonight (Wednesday).  6:30 at South.  Please help spread the word.

2/6/13
Jazzers, come with food in your tummy tonight.  I've got a booster meeting and I don't have your orders for chipotle tonight.  I will get it on Friday night.  See everyone at 5PM.

2012-13 Pep Band Basketball Schedule

Each game is worth 30 points. You may miss one game without excuse but you do have to notify Mr. Adams in advance. Missed games will be approved on a first come basis because we must have acceptable instrumentation for every game. Points may be deducted for:

1.     missed performance (you are allowed one)

2.     showing up late or leaving early

3.     not helping to set-up or tear down

4.     not being in uniform

5.     late for “quarter”-all band members need to be in position by 1:30 minutes on the clock for 3rdquarter. (you get 3rdquarter off except for post-season)

6.     not participating or discipline problems

Unless otherwise noted, all games begin at 7:00. The band needs to arrive at 6:30 so that we can play prior to the game. Everyone needs to help setup and tear down. The games end around 8:30.

Your uniform consists of the jazz band shirt and jeans.

10/11/12

Hmmm, cool date (look above).  Anyway, jazz band plays at OPC elementary Friday evening.  The address is 10000 Nieman Road.  Arrive at 6:20 for the 6:50 down beat.  We play for 30 minutes.  Besides our music and instruments, we need to bring amps for the bass and guitar and an extension cord or two.  Stands, chairs, drum set, and keyboard are provided.  Wear you jazz band shirt and jeans.  This is a pretty relaxed gig.

You will need to park in the neighborhood around the school.  Build in enough time so you can park and get to the meeting point in time.  We meet in the receiving area behind the cafeteria.

9/12/12

Jazz Band: First off-great job at tonight's grueling rehearsal.  You earned rave reviews!  Now a reminder about the dress for tomorrow.  We start the gig wearing our white marching band shirts with khaki pants/skirts and brown footwear.  For the finale, we switch into the new "Gravity" shirts.  Very important to remember that marching shirt because the gravity shirt is supposed to be a surprise.  Feel free to text anyone in the band that you think might not get this.  Can you tell I'm a little worried :-)  I suppose that is my job.

I'll see everyone in our setup ready to play at 7AM.

9/4/12

Here is a not-too-pretty cut and paste of an invitation for parents to the State of the District presentation that the jazz band is playing for on 9/13.  The invitation was very pretty but I couldn't transfer it as printed to this page.
