Immunization Policy

                      Immunization Requirements

Kanss Law K.S.A 72-5208 through 72-5211 states that every student 
enrolled in Kansas, who has not already done so, will be required 
upon admission to school to present certification of a physician or 
local health department showing that the student has received the 
immunization as designated by the Secretary of the State Dept. of 
Health and Environment.  The minimum requirements for the 2000-2001 
school year are listed below:

         4 DTP
1) There must be a minimum of 4 weeks between doses with 6 months   
between the 3rd and 4th dose.
2)  At least one dose must be on or after the 4th birthday.
3)  The Td booster is required 10 years after the date of the last 
DTP, or may be given as early as 5 years after the last DTP.


          2 MMR
1) The 1st dose must be on or after the 1st birthday
2) There must be 4 weeks between the 1st and 2nd dose

          3 POLIO (OPV/IPV)
1)  There must be 4 weeks between doses and 1 dose must be on or 
after the 4th birthday.
             OR
          4 POLIO (OPV/IPV)
1)  Ther must be 4 weeks between each dose.
          
          3 HEPATITIS B SERIES

          1 VARICELLA (Chicken Pox)

AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE REQUIRED IMMUNIZATION THE PARENT/GUARDIAN OF 
THE STUDENT MUST PRESENT;

1)An annual written statement signed by a licensed physician stating 
the physical condition of the child to be such that the immuization 
would seriouslly endanger the life or health of the child.
2) A written statement signed by one parent or guardian that the 
child is an dherent of a religious denomination whose religious 
teaching are opposed to the required immunizations.
3) A written statement signed by one parent or guardian that such 
immunization are in process of being receidved and will be completed 
within  90 days after admission to school.  A copy of the completed 
immunization record must then be presented to the school the student 
attends.

NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF KSA 72-5209 AS AMENDED WILL 
RESULT IN THE CHILD BEING EXCLUDED FROM SCHOOL UNTIL COMPLIANCE WITH 
THE LAW HAS OCCURRED.  THE BUILDING PRINCIPAL OR DESIGNEE (OFTEN 
TIMES THE SCHOOL NURSE) WILL NOTIFY THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN IN WRITING 
OF THE DATE THE CHILD WILL BE EXCLUDED FROM SCHOOL.  THE NOTICE SHALL 
INDICATED THE REASON FOR EXCLUSION FROM SCHOOL ATTENDANCE; STATE THE 
PUPIL SHALL CONTINUE TO BE EXCLUDED UNTIL THE PUPIL HAS COMPLIED WITH 
THE LAW; AND INFORM THE PARENT/GUARDIAN THAT A HEARING SHALL BE 
AFFORDED TO THEM UPON REQUEST.  ON THE FOURTH CONSECUTIVE DAY OF 
ABSENCE DUE TO EXCLUSION THE STUDENT WILL BE REPORTED TO THE SRS OR 
JUVENILE COURT SYSTEM AS TRUANT.
