General Information

                      HEALTH SERVICES

School nurses strive to work together with the student, parent/guardian
teachers & school staff to provide health services and information,
illness/injury care, screenings and referral.

The School Nurse provides a variety of health related services to the
students of USD 353. The School Nurse works together with students,
parents/guardians & school personnel to foster the optimum health of
each individual student.

The school nurse maintains health records on pupils, which include
immunizations as required by state law. First aid or emergency
treatment will be handled by the school nurse for the school building
in which she is present. Other school personnel are designated to
perform emergency treatment and medication administration when the
nurse is not present. Ill or injured students are to report to the
secretary or office in their building. Only the school nurse or
principal’s office may dismiss pupils from school. In the event of a
serious accident, the school will notify the parent/guardian and
continue to care for the pupil. If the parent/guardian cannot be
located, the student’s safety and welfare will be cared for in
accordance with instructions provided to the school at enrollment
time.

Screenings for the control and prevention of communicable diseases,
vision and hearing are also offered through the school year.
Students with communicable diseases will be handled following
guidelines established by the Kansas Department of Health and
Environment.

Vision Screening is provided to KG, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 5th, 6th, 8th, 10th &
12th. Hearing Screening is provided for KG, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th,
8th, 10th & 12th grade students. The Kg-5th grade students will bring home
passed notes for Vision & Hearing screenings, parent/guardian will be
notified by mail of any failed vision or hearing results. The
parent/guardian of 6th-12th grade students will only be notified, by
