Article Analysis Format

Article Analysis Assignment

  • Attach the original article or a photocopy/print out of the article to your assignment.
  • Do your assignment on an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of paper and have it typed in black ink or handwritten using pencil.
  • Arrange your analysis on your paper as the format below shows.

Body: Answer these 5 questions using complete sentences:

  • Who?
  • What?
  • Where?
  • When?
  • Why?

 
New Vocabulary Words: You may use a dictionary or an online dictionary: www.webster.com or http://www.dictionary.com.

Choose 2 –3 words from the article that are new to you. If you know all of the words, choose words that someone else may have trouble with. Write the word, part of speech, syllabication, and then the definition of the word as it is used in the article. For example:

newspaper
– (noun) – news * pa * per – A publication usually issued daily or weekly containing currents news, editorials, feature articles, and usually advertising.



Opinion: Write at least 10-12 sentences for this section. You may need more. Information you should include in your opinion should be: at least 3 important facts or pieces of information you learned from the article; why you chose this article; did you agree or disagree with the content and why (giving specific details); how does this affect you or others (who might benefit form reading it or knowing the information in it and why); should this be made a front page headline – if so why, etc. You may include other details as well to support your opinion on the article.

The opinion section is the only section you should write in regular paragraph form. Bullet the Body and New Vocabulary Sections.
