Child Development
Course Outline: This course is a study of prenatal and early development of the infant, the needs of the child from birth to age six, as well as special areas of health and safety problem situations for children as well as careers in child care services. It will also include the study of the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of infancy through age six. The student will carry around a "Baby think it Over" for 3 days, keeping a detailed schedule of their daily routine, as well as their pretend baby’s day. They will also calculate the cost of a baby during the first year of life, planning and organizing all the equipment, supplies, etc. needed for a newborn. The “Empathy Belly” will be worn by all students, male and female, to get a better understanding of the life of an expectant mother. Students will also work with area elementary schools and Career & Technical Student Organizations at CHS to host a Family Reading Night as part of the KY Unite to Read Program. |
