I am beginning 2012 with #19 of my 100 portraits series. Keep up with me at www.karihaan.blogspot.com -Ms. Haan-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This course will develop and build on students' understanding of some of the fundamental concepts and techniques of art making and art appreciation.
The Basics: How to Succeed in This Class
Always be ready to learn! This means….
Not so hard, right?
The Details: How YOU EARN Your Grade
Grades will be based on PROJECTS, DAILY WORK HABITS, SKETCHBOOK & EVALUATIONS. PROJECTS will each focus on a different concept and should demonstrate student understanding of that concept. Projects MUST be turned in on time. Turning in late projects without an approved excuse will result in a loss of points. Most projects will conclude with a written self evaluation & reflection by the student artist; this will be a part of the overall project grade. DAILY WORK HABITS points will be based on daily attendance, classroom participation & behavior, work habits & cleaning. Problems in any of these areas will negatively affect points.SKETCHBOOK work will be a part of the research, planning, and reflection process for most projects and is an important part of any art discipline. You will also use your sketchbook for daily writing and drawing activities. Sketchbooks will be checked periodically, and missing sketchbooks will negatively affect the Daily Work Habits grade. EVALUATIONS will be given at the end of each project. This will be your chance to think and write critically about your work and demonstrate your knowledge of the appropriate vocabulary.Art Class Rules & Expectations
When I am teaching, students are expected to be listening, not talking. Raise your hand and wait to be called on to add to the discussion or ask questions. Unless you have permission to be out of your seat during this time, you should be in your seat.CLEAN UP after yourself and with your table team at your assigned sink. Roughly 150 students will use the art classroom every day. Each person is responsible for keeping this space clean, every single class period. 5 points will be lost for each student at each table assigned to a sink that is left messy.
Students are expected to use class time wisely. RESPECT yourself & others. No name calling, no drama, no whining. Just put a smile on!
Take care of the art supplies and tools. They belong to everyone, not just you. Safety is key! The art classroom has chemicals and tools that must be used responsibly with attention to the safety of you and others.
Students should be on time to class every day. This is a studio class so almost all of the work is done during class time. It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to find out about any missed class activity and work with me to make up any missed assignments. Students tardy 3 times to class will be assigned detention.
PARENTS: If you ever have any questions, comments, concerns or just want to say hello, please feel free to contact me. I want to welcome any parents that would like to share their artistic talents, volunteer with the class, or donate art supplies. Many changes are taking place in my classroom! Keep on the look out for online pre-assessments, rubrics, surveys, and resource websites and videos to help you with your planning and creation of projects!!! To my students: Thank you so much for being honest with me, and helping me to understand what you need from me to learn best. You are the best teachers!
