Mission
Plan of Action: We will be submerged in fantastic, challenging literature from many genres including poetry, drama, nonfiction, short story, and novel during our time together. We will work on finishing a Senior Portfolio. We will also prepare for real life and social experiences by understanding certain aspects of grammar and strengthening our vocabulary. Other projects and writings will be required with specific units and graded as a test grade. Required Writing: Every student will complete a portfolio, or collection of writings that show growth and understanding. You will be provided with time in class and are expected to work outside of class as well. While in this class, we will complete new pieces and work to improve existing ones. We will also work extensively on 3.5 essays, argument, informative/explanatory, research, and career writing. A complete portfolio with six pieces is required for graduation. Required Reading: During this trimester we will work with several types of literature. You will be expected to do reading in and outside of class. We will cover Macbeth, Wuthering Heights, Black Boy, Beowulf, Canterbury Tales, The Secret Life of Bees, V for Vendetta, works by Poe, short stories, independent reading…just to name a few. You will also need to bring in outside reading (newspapers, magazines, comic books, graphic novels, novels) for independent reading. Expect to read something new every two weeks. You will also complete an annotated bibliography for each book you read. Independent reading-This trimester you will be reading several independent books. Three of those books must be part of a series or by the same author. You will complete a major portfolio writing piece and project with these books. Required Projects: During our trimesters together, students will also work on various projects. During our final trimester, Seniors will work on a Career Project.
