![]() Storytown ReadingReading / Language Arts PracticeOur reader for third grade is from the Harcourt series Storytown. The series is divided into two books of three units each. Our first book is called Twists and Turns. The themes we will cover in the first book are: School Days, Together We Can, and As We Grow. Our second book is called Breaking New Ground. The themes we cover in the second book are: Tales to Tell, A Place for All, and Discoveries. Each of the themes uses a variety of genre from a wide assortment of literature resources. The units also focus on a variety of skills that we will cover during the theme. These skills will be tested weekly and at the end of the theme.

Comprehension Skills and Strategies Author’s Purpose Authors usually have a purpose (or purposes) in mind when they begin writing. You can typically determine the purpose from clues in the text.
Subject and Object Pronouns A subject pronoun takes the place of the subject of a sentence. (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) Example: Amy and Bob walked the dog. They walked the dog. An object pronoun takes the place of a noun that receives the action. (me, you, him, her, it, us, them) Example: The dog chewed on the bone. The dog chewed on it.
