The L.E.A.P. Test is a test of basic skills given at the 4th and 8th grades. It covers skills in the areas of English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. The English/Language Arts section (commonly referred to as "ELA") is comprised of several parts. There is a 150 word essay that students must compose and edit before writing their final draft; a reading and responding section that tests comprehension as well as analytical skills;a spelling and grammar section; and a using information resources section in which students' ability to utilize library and research materials (including the internet) is tested. The mathematics section tests simple computation of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as problem solving ability. It also tests the areas of geometry, algebra, graphing and measurement. Students must not only solve math problems, but must be able to explain their thinking on some areas of the test. The same is true for Social Studies and Science. Students will encounter some straightforward comprehension questions on these tests, but will also be asked to apply analytical reasoning skills and explain their thinking on other questions. The St. Tammany Guaranteed Curriculum is in line with the State Curriculum and will prepare your child for these tests. I am confident that if your child does the work necessary this year, working together we can help him or her succeed come testing time! Parents...PLEASE work with your children during the school year...try not to stress too much. I will do my very best to make sure your child is prepared for the test. I'll give all I can...and you and your child give all you can!!! :) Below are websites you are welcome to use with your child!
