Is my child going to pass the Leap?
I certainly hope so and I believe every child can! In my experience some of the best determining factors have been attendance, homework, and just paying attention in class. We are committed to doing everything we can to give your child the tools he/she needs to pass the LEAP. If he/she works hard throughout the year, you should have every confidence that passing the LEAP will not be a problem. What is Write from the Beginning?
Here is an example! The 1st paragraph is called the Opening Paragrah. The opening paragraph consists of exactly 2 sentences. Those 2 sentences are to answer as many of the 5 WH questions (who, what, when, why, where) as possible. EXAMPLE: During the 2009 Mardi Gras break, Kevin and I went to Venice Beach in California. While Kevin and I were at the beach, we went for a walk, shopped, and saw many different sights. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th paragraphs are your middle/details paragraphs. Each paragraph should focus on ONE focal point of the main topcic. The three middle paragraphs tell the who, what, when, why, where, and how of that focal point. These three middle paragraphs must have 4 to 6 sentences. Five pargraph compositions contain 3 focal points. The three focal points of the main idea are underlined in the example opening paragraph above. Using the opening paragraph above, the three middle paragraphs should be written as follows: 2nd: All about my walking experience on the beach 3rd: All about my shopping experience while at the beach 4th: All about the different sights I saw while at the beach The 5th paragraph is called the Closing Paragraph. Like the opening paragraph, the closing paragraph also consists of 2 sentences. This paragraph includes the writer's personal feelings about what he/she has written. NOTE: All sentences must be clear and precise. I encourage students to write 7up sentences. 7up sentences are sentences that have 7 or more words. See below for examples of sentences. We went to the park. This sentence is not good, because I can ask the student many different questions after reading this sentence. Ex: Who are we? How did you get to the park? When did you go to the park? What park did you go to? Where is the park? Why did you go to the park? Yesterday my friend Cloey and I went to Heritage Park in Slidell, and we walked along the walking trail to get some exercise. This is a great sentence, because it answers many questions.Back to Top
