Ms. Melancon’s Overview

Language-This week, we will continue to study verbs. We will have Language
homework on Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be a test on Wednesday.
Spelling-This week, we will be doing Unit 8 words. As always, there will be
a pretest on Monday, and any missed words will be the spelling words for the
week (up to 10 words). If a student misses less than 10, he/she will be
able to choose challenge words from a higher level list. If a student is
absent or does not take the pretest, that student will have all 15 words
from the original list. Homework will be 3 times each on Monday, and
studying the words. There will be a test on Friday.
Reading-This week, we will be reading a story from the text entitled “At
Home With Whales”. The vocabulary words for this week are:
1. peered-to look intently or with difficulty
2. fins-one of the thin, flat parts that stick out from the body of
fish and certain other water animals. Fins are used for moving and
balancing.
3. pride-pleasure or satisfaction in accomplishments or possessions
4. locate-to find and show the position of
5. dove-a past tense of dive
6. overflowing-to flow over limits
Math- This week, we will be using addition properties and the relationship
between addition and subtraction. We will also be completing tables
representing patterns. Homework will be any unfinished classwork, in
addition to worksheets on Monday and Wednesday. There will be a test on
Thursday.
Science -This week, we continue to study the planet Earth. We will watch a
BrainPop video about this, discussing it, and having a quiz Thursday.
