LOUISIANA-April 9, 2008 This week we talked about Louisiana. On Wednesday, we added some things that are important pertaining to the agriculture industry. We added the pretzel sticks for lumber, strawberries for the state fruit, sweet potatoes for the state vegetable, marshmellows for cotton, blue jello for Gulf of Mexico, Gold fish for seafood industry, fudge for oil industry, pecans, sugar cubes for sugarcane, shredded coconut for rice & hot tamales for Tabasco. The students enjoyed making the Louisiana cake together!
Easter Bunny Pictures-March 20, 2008
Dr. Seuss' "Green Eggs & Ham."- March 7, 2008 In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, we read some of his books and made green eggs & ham. A couple of students said that they were not going to eat the green eggs; however everyone loved them!!
Dental Health Week: Feb. 25-29, 2008 We did an experiment to see the causes of drinking these fluids without brushing our teeth.
Look what happened to the eggs (tooth) just one day later. Students brushed the eggs to make them white again.
After our experiment, we concluded that coffee stained teeth more than the fruit juice and coke. It was the hardest to brush off of the egg. We also concluded that the acid in the fruit juice ate away the egg just after one day. Therefore, it is better to have sugar-free juices!
Students practiced how to floss using string with half of an egg carton in dramatic play. Caleb is practicing!
Students used tooth brushes to paint at the easel! They loved it! Julia is painting a picture!
Community Helpers Week: Feb. 18-22, 2008 Mrs. Adams came to our classroom to tell us what she does as an assistant principal here at Bayou Blue. The kids were very happy that she came and gave her a great, big hug before she went back to work!
Mr. Schieffler (Caleb's dad) is a firefighter. He came to our classroom to tell us all about how he helps keep our community safe. The kids really enjoyed him coming!
Mrs. Valerie Adair came to our classroom to show us what hair dressers do. She showed us how hair dressers cut hair. She made it very evident that only "professionals" can cut hair! :-)
Mardi Gras - Jan. 31, 2008 Here are some of the hats that we made for our Mardi Gras parade. Each student designed his or her own hat piece by piece. It took about 30 minutes to make each hat! Everyone did such a terrific job! The hats were made using grocery paper bags along with each students personal accessories!
Here are some patterns that we made during small group! Jan. 24th, 2008
Pre-K Christmas Party 12/19/07
This is what happened to the bird seeds after 11 days!! The students noticed the grass growing immediately! It was a great experiment for them to observe over several days!
Some of the children cut out different foods that they are planning to eat for Thanksgiving Dinner & glued them on a plate!
Each student made a turkey hand and signed their name. I laminated it and they used it as a place mat for the Thanksgiving Feast that we had at school! After the feast, they were able to take it home!
I sent home a drawing of a turkey for the parents to help their children decorate. As the students brought them in from home, I placed them on our classroom door. This is what the sign says on the door with the turkeys: "My name is Tom Turkey and I'm afraid as can be! I'm wearing my disguise so you won't catch me!" Here are the cute little turkeys!
