December 7-11, 2009
For this week's homework, students should focus on their spelling words (we take a final test this week on Unit 3 Story 1 words, and the pretest for Unit 3 Story 2 words), practicing the reading strategies we are using in all books and stories they read, and beginning their research for their Take Home Projects. They should also look at ways that their families use sorting for various activities at home. We will begin new stories this week: "Boys and Girls Play," "Kids Can Help," or "Fun Days." The new stories will be placed in the Take Home Student Folders, as well as the latest vocabulary and spelling word cards which correspond with the stories (look for these on Wednesday).
Please plan for the next Take Home Projects, even though they are not due until January. If you need anything from me to complete the projects, please let me know as soon as possible. Don't forget that these projects meet components of the Parish's Guaranteed Curriculum in Math and Language Arts, and the State's Guaranteed Curriculum for Social Studies.
Our class Winter Celebration will be on Wednesday, December 16. Students will cycle through a variety of learning centers, making crafts from around the world. In the afternoon, they will be eating foods representative of those countries. I would love to have a lot of volunteers to help me pull this off. I need help mainly with the learning centers. I can provide you with everything you need, you just need to help small groups of students at your center. Also, I will be sending home a list of possible items to donate. If you cannot at this time, that is okay. I will assure that the students have a wonderful time! I am also hoping to get some musical talent to perform, but that has not been solidified yet. Please let me know if you can help!
Free Flu Shots will be provided through the St. Tammany Parish School System. The dates are located on the page "When Is?"
