ELA: Unit 3 Description

Sharing ideas is a unit where students will use listening and sensory skills 
to create mental pictures for comprehension.They will develop writing skills 
to share their ideas with their peers. Students will use the conventions of 
print and language to communicate with others.

Enduring Understandings:
*   Listening to others can help me learn new things.
*   I communicate to understand others.
*   I communicate to help others understand me.

Essential Questions:  
*   Why is it important to listen to others? 
*   How do looking, listening, speaking, reading, and writing help me   
    understand others?
*   How do looking, listening, speaking, reading, and wrtiting help me to 
    understand me?

Story: Kid's Can Help
Big Book: To Be a Kid
Decodable Reader: Slap Hello
Leveled Readers: Boys and Girls Play, Holiday Fun, Let's Eat
Vocabulary: girl, boy, together, when, people, care, water, sled, swim  
Story Words:animals,bread,brother,cook,home,leaves,llama,neighborhood
            recycled,river  
Comprehension: Strategy- Analyze Text Structure
                         Nonfiction authors present information in may ways.
               Skill- Compare and Contrast
Writing: Personal Narrative
Phonics: Identify sound-letter correspondence /sk/sc-,sk-; /sl/sl-;
         /sm/sm-; /sn/sn-; /sp/sp-; /st/st-; /sw/sw- 
Spelling Words: sled slip snake snap spill spin make game people water 
Grammar/Mechanics: Understand present-tense verbs
Literacy Stations: Spelling, Word Builder, Writing, Partner Reading, 
                   Computer, Art, Phonics, Promethium Board
Assessment: teacher generated tests, teacher observation and guaranteed 
            curriculum assessment activities.


Math: Unit 3: Collecting and Sorting Data

Enduring Understandings:
*    I can make my own decisions if I think.
*    I can show my thinking in diffeent ways.	

Essential Questions:
*    Why do I need to think?
*    How can I make a good decision?
*    Why is it important to show my thinking in different ways?
*    How can I tell others about my ideas?
*    How can ideas change?

Objectives:
*    TSW know the purpose and uses of different types of graphs and charts.
*    TSW know how to sort and classify using logical classification rules.
*    TSW learn probability vocabulary.

Outcome:
*    Collect, sort, organize and describe data based on real-life 
     situations.
*    Make, read, and understand data in charts, graphs, and tables.
*    Explore, create, and solve sequence-of-pattern problems.
*    Predict outcomes based on probability.
*    Learn vocabulary. 
        
Math Literacy Stations: Number writing, Partner Games, Computer, Addition, 
Promethean Board, Building Station
