Spelling Activities1. Rainbow Writing: Write your spelling words in pencil and then use two or three crayons to trace over the words. 2. Pyramid Writing: Write the first letter of your word, then on the next line, write the first two letters of your word. Continue until you have the word spelled. c ca cat 3. Computer Writing: Type your words on the computer, print out and bring to school. 4. ABC Order: Write all your spelling words in ABC order. 5. Word Search: Make a list of your spelling words on a word search program and print it out. ( http://www.puzzlemaker.com) 6. Rhymes Writing: Write your spelling words and next to them write a rhyming word. Example: men - pen. Underline your spelling word. 7. Spelling Paragraph: Write a paragraph using EACH of your spelling words. Be sure to underline your spelling words in the paragraph. 8. Silly Sentences: Write ten silly sentences using two spelling words in each sentence. Please underline your spelling words. Example: My dog wears a blue and purple dress to bed. 9. Connect the Dots: Write ten of your spelling words in dots. Connect the dots by tracing over them with a colored pencil, crayon or marker. 10. Fancy Letters: Write each of your spelling words using fancy letters. Your letters can have curly-q's or dots, etc. 11. Upper and Lower: First write your spelling words normally. Then rewrite your spelling word. This time, write the vowels in lowercase and the consonants in uppercase. Example: LoWeR 12. Bubble Letters: Write 10 of your spelling words in bubble letters. After you finish, color your words. 13. Code Writing: Write your spelling words using a code. Example: 1=a, 2=b, 3=c, 4=d (bed = 2,5,4) 14. Tongue Twisters: Choose five of your spelling words and write a tongue twister sentence using each of them in a sentence. (All words will begin with the same letter. Ex: Pink pigs play the piano.) 15. Across and Down: Choose ten spelling words. Write each word across and down, sharing the beginning letter. Ex: when h e n 16. Superman Letter: Write a creative letter to Superman (or another super hero). In your letter, you must use each of your spelling words. Be sure to underline the words as you use them. 17. Glue It Writing: Cut out letters from newspapers, magazines, or make different kinds on the computer. Glue them to your paper to write your spelling words. 18. Make New Words: Write each spelling word. Next to each word, write two additional words of at least three letters that can be spelled using the letters in the word. Ex: the word pickle can be used to make the words lick, pick, like, and lip. 19. Rap Songs: Write a rap song using at least 10 of your spelling words. 20. Synonyms & Antonyms: Use a thesaurus to write a synonym and/or an antonym for each word possible. 21. What Does It Mean?: Look up each word in the dictionary and write the definition. 22. Super Sentences: Write a super sentence with each spelling word. 23. Write About It!: Use ALL of your spelling words to write a short story. Your story must inclued all of your words. |
