Announcements

WELCOME TO MRS. GRAFF’S SECOND GRADE CLASSROOM!

Dear Parents,
My name is Carol Graff and I would like to welcome you and your child to
Second Grade! Some of our classroom procedures are as follows:

Good Behavior

CHAMPS was implemented during the school year last year. It helps the
students learn appropriate behaviors within the school setting. In the
classroom, we learn which behaviors are appropriate for certain activities,
in the halls, in the cafeteria, during recess, etc. There is a CHAMPO board
posted in the classroom. At any given time, the teacher can call a CHAMPO
moment and a number is drawn from a pot if the class is choosing the
appropriate behavior for the activity. After receiving 5 numbers in a row,
the class receives a reward. A list of the rewards is also posted in the
classroom and the teacher gives the reward to the class on a specific day.
The class as a whole works towards this goal.

Tickets – Throughout the day, your child will have opportunities to
earn tickets for good behavior to be placed in the ticket container. Each
Friday, several names will be drawn from the container for a reward. Anyone
wishing to contribute small items for our Treasure Chest of rewards is
welcome to send them. Thanks!

Stickers or Stamps – Students will be given a chart for which they can
earn stickers or stamps for excellent behavior. When a chart is filled, the
child can turn it in for a reward.

Skittles are given to individual students for appropriate behavior
also.

Homework

Each Monday a homework sheet will be placed in the Take Home Folder.
Homework is to be done in the homework notebook (black & white composition
book). All homework must be done neatly and correctly. Please check your
child’s homework each night. The homework notebook should be returned to
school each day to be checked. The Homework Notebook will also be used for
home/school communication.

Rewards are also given after earning 10 completed homework
assignments.
This chart can be found in the back of the take home folder. Please initial
this chart each night. This way, you can keep up with whether or not your
child is completing his/her homework.

Tests
A Spelling, Reading, Language and Math test will be given each Friday.
Spelling words, Reading vocabulary and Math samples will be included on the
homework sheet to study. Math tests will also include questions from Every
Day Math Counts, which the class does orally each day. Also, review daily
Language practices for the test. Language practice sheet packets will go
home on Thursday to be used to study for the test on Friday.

Snacks
Students may bring a nutritional snack from home for themselves each
day. No drinks, please, except water. I will provide the first set of
water
bottles for the class. Please send a new water bottle for your child on
Mondays. They will refill them during the week from the sink. Snack time
will be at approximately 10:30 each day, as we do not have lunch until 12:20.

Folders
Take Home Folder: Hand- outs from school will be placed in this folder
and in the large white envelope that goes home on Thursdays with school
information. This white envelope is to be signed and returned on Fridays.
Your child’s homework sheet will be in the Take Home Folder and changed
every
Monday.
You may also access our classroom web-site to see the homework sheet
for the week: Go to stpsb.org, Click on Parents, Click on School
Directories, Click on Bayou Woods, Click on Faculty, Click on Carol Graff,
Click on Homework.
If you have an e-mail address, please send it to me at my e-mail
address
below.
Please place any correspondence in the Take Home Folder or in the Black
and White Homework Notebook. These two items should be returned to school
each day. Thanks!

 Graded Papers
Graded papers go home each Monday in the Test Folder. The papers will
be stapled together. Please go over these papers with your child, sign the
top paper, and return all tests on Tuesday. I will return all tests at the
end of the year.

Cafeteria
Because the cafeteria is computerized, it is important that you pay by
the week or by the month. Money will be collected only on Monday. It
should
be sent in an envelope with child’s full name, computer #, amount of money
and teacher’s name.

E-mail
If you would like to email me, my address is carol.graff@stpsb.org.

I am looking forward to a great year!
