This week phonics focus is making words with silent e and long a.
Please practice making words at home using any sounds we’ve learned so far
including the blends. Blends are difficult so please practice nightly.
Our skill focus for reading is visualizing and sequencing.
In grammar we will continue our study of nouns. We will be learning about
proper nouns (names that need capitals). We will still be reviewing plural
nouns. We will be practicing writing the names of people, places, things,
days, months, etc.

Math: We are beginning our unit on subtraction. This can be a difficult
skill to master. We will be working on using counters to separate and we
will practice counting backwards.
Please remember to check your child's black and white notebook and homework
folder nightly. Please initial your child's notebook nightly and review
spelling words located in this book. Your child will be responsible for
knowing these spelling words by Friday.
Your child's homework folder is also a very important tool. This folder
contains the reading stories and vocabulary words for the week. Please
study the highlighted words with your child nightly. We will highlight the
story on the day it is read in class. You can practice reading this story
at home nightly with your child as well (once it is highlighted).
