Weekly Focus

New and Notes: Beginning November 2

Remember that we are now in the second nine weeks and all graded work counts
towards report card grades.

Thanksgiving Holidays : November 23-27

Thanks to everyone who contributed treats to our ‘Spooky Snack’ on Friday.

Curriculum:
We are continuing with the theme "Where Animals Live”. We are learning
about the different habitats animals live in.

Vocabulary Words to know:
many
into
live
out

Spelling: List 9 (Study words that are highlighted)
All the boys and girls knew how to spell the short ‘u’ words this week.
Check black and whites for special spelling ‘fun’ words for this week.

This week phonics focus is making words with short /u/. Please keep working
with digraphs th and sh as well. These tend to be somewhat tricky for
students. Please practice making short u words at home and continue to
review words with blends and short vowels a, e, i, and o.

Our skill focus for reading is summarizing and retelling.
In grammar we will continue our study of nouns. We will practice making
nouns plural. We are also still reviewing sentence structure.

Math: We are learning about "Touchpoints" or "TouchMath". We'll continue
using our tochpoints to add this week. We’ll also be doing story problems.
Counting on is an important skill to practice at home. Key words we're
learning are: sum, add, equals, addends.

Please remember to check your child's black and white notebook and homework
folder nightly. Please initial your child's notebook nightly and review
spelling words located in this book. Your child will be responsible for
knowing these spelling words by Friday.
Your child's homework folder is also a very important tool. This folder
contains the reading stories and vocabulary words for the week. Please
study the highlighted words with your child nightly. We will highlight the
story on the day it is read in class. You can practice reading this story
at home nightly with your child as well (once it is highlighted).
