Morning Meeting/Reunión de mañanaEach day we gather in a circle. I choose a helper and the helper begins by handing a small koosh ball to another student and saying "Good morning _________". The first person goes back to his/her spot and sits. The second person chooses someone to say "Good morning" to and then sits, this continues until everyone is sitting.
We then have sharing time. The last person to get the "Good morning" ball brings me a box with 3 cubes inside. I say the peoples names who share that day and they go and get their sharing item and sit back in their spot with the object behind them. We pass the box around the circle until it reaches a person whose turn it is to share. That person then takes the item from behind their back and places it on the floor. They take the 3 cubes from the box and hold them. They say, "This is my ________ , I'm ready for questions and comments. Other students raise thier hands and the sharing person picks someone. That person may ask a question or make a comment. The sharer puts 1 block back into the box and continues until all 3 blocks are in the box. They pass the box and put their sharing item behind them. If a student does not have an item, I let them tell something if they choose to.
We then do news on the promethean board. The helper moves the word for the month, day and date to sentences. The helper points to the words as we read them together. The helper then checks the sky and reports, the weather, we check the temperature online and slide a line on a thermometer to show the temperature. The helper also writes his/her name and chooses a favorite item from pictures, this changes as the year goes on.
We end morning meeting with a bouncing ball. We practice a skill until each person has been a helper and then we change the skill.
