Gator Lessons Unit 4

                                                         Essential Questions 

 
How do we get the food we eat?
Why do people and animals need food?
Why do I need to learn about food?
 Week of 11/16-11/20
Review of all letters and sounds learned.  Introduction of "th" sound and writing.  Review of all high frequency words learned.  Review shapes, color words, numbers 0-8, and number words zero - eight.  Make "My First Thanksgiving" art and writing book for take home.  Special activities for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 19.
ELA CENTERS: 
     Make a take home book, "Where's That Turkey?", and read it along with others in your book box
     Practice "Where's That Sound?" with letters learned (Beginning/middle/end of word)
     Sequence a story
     Rainbow writing, and playdough to make letters and words
     Use letters we've learned to make real and nonsense words and read/write them.
MATH CENTERS: 
     Make fall and thanksgiving patterns and do other fall patterning games
     Counting 0-8 paper, and counting games
     Color animals and decide whether they are "daytime" or "night-time animals" for hall picture
     writing numbers 0-8 and beyond
    Taking class polls, and graphing results
 
Week of 11/9-11/13
 Review of all letters and sounds learned (M/m, S/s, P/p, T/t, A/a, I/i, N/n, C/c).  Review of all hight frequency words learned.  Review shapes, color words, numbers 0-8 and number words zero-eight.  Complete unit on Food, with "My Food Journal", and class food pyramid.
Science:  Nocturnal animals
Social Studies:  Veterans' Day activities, begin "My First Thanksgiving" student made books  
 
Week of 11/2-11/6
Review of all letters and sounds learned (M/m, S/s, P/p, T/t, A/a, I/i, N/n). Review of all high frequency words learned.  Review shapes, color words, numbers 0-7 and number words zero--seven.
Introduce letter and letter sound C/c.  Introduce sight word "have". Introduce number and number word 8/eight. Learn about different categories of food, how we get food, and how we preserve it.
ELA CENTERS:  Make a take home C/c book, and read it along with others in your book box
     Make "Food Pyramid Words Book" easy reader and take home.
     Practice "Where's That Sound?" with letters learned (Beginning/middle/end of word)
     Practice reading color words by making "Scarecrow Colors" book
     Sequence a story
     Rainbow writing, and playdough to make letters and words
     Use letters we've learned to make real and nonsense words and read/write them.

SCIENCE/Social Studies:  Preserving things by drying them in different ways. Ancient Egypt, and food sources.  Results of Apple mummy experiments.

 
·        Week of 10/26-10/30:
Review of all letters and sounds learned (M/m, S/s, P/p, T/t, A/a, I/i). Review of all high frequencey words learned.  Review shapes, color words, numbers 0-6 and number words zero-six.
Introduce letter and letter sound N/n.  Introduce sight word "to". Introduce number and number word 7. Learn about different categories of food, how we get food, and how we preserve it.

     Make "What Do I See On Halloween" easy reader and take home.
     Practice "Where's That Sound?" with letters learned (Beginning/middle/end of word)
     Practice reading color words by making "Scarecrow Colors" book

     Use letters we've learned to make real and nonsense words and read/write them.
