Where can I find information on what my child is learning in the classroom?
You may check your child's S.P.O.T.folder and look in the plastic cover
cheet labled Classroom News. Each week there will be a brief description of
concepts and lessons that will be taught. Secondly, you may check the
classroom web page.
--------------------------------------
Does my child have a reading goal and point value goal each nine weeks?
Yes, each chld has a sheet in their R.R. binder located in the classroom.
Mrs. Caples has conferenced with each and everyone of them to discuss their
book level, point goal, and their STAR TESTING score.
--------------------------------------
What if my child can not do his/her homework for any reason?
Parents may write a short note in their child's SPOT FOLDER and explain hte
situation. Parents may also call Mrs. Caples at home if it is an emergemcy.
--------------------------------------
DoI sign and return graded papers sent home on Monday?
Yes, parents should sign the GRADED PAPER SHEET found in a plastic cover in
their child's SPOT folder. They may also sign the top sheet in the stapled
graded pares. Mrs. Caples keeps all graded papers for each nine weeks.
--------------------------------------
When can Mrs. Caples meet for a conference?
Mrs. Caples can meet every morning before school starts. She can also meet
on Tuesday and Thursday right after school. All parents should contact the
school 985-643-0674 to set up a conference!
--------------------------------------
How should I help prepare my child for a quiz/test?
The best way to assist your child in preparing for a test is read and look
over notes written in their notebook for that subject. Many times a study
guide is given. They can also read over the textbook with their child and
make sure they know their vocabulary.
--------------------------------------
Can I bring my child's pet or something in for show and tell?
Yes, let your child know when and they can tell me. When we participate in
morning meeting we will enjoy listening and learning about your "tell".
Parents can also write a short note in their child's SPOT folder or write it
in their agenda!
--------------------------------------
Can I bring cupcakes or snack for my child's birthday or for a holiday?
Yes, the children love to share the celebration of their peer's birthday!
Any type of snack can be brought to school by your child or you can drop it
off in the morning before school. Otherwise, write a note and let me know
when you would like to come and bring it.
--------------------------------------
Can my child bring home the class pet over the weekend?
Yes, if your child would like to take home Miss Piggy, write a note in their
SPOT folder. You may pick her up and the cage on Friday anytime(or at the
end of the day) and return her on Monday. If your child attends aftercare
you may walk down to the classroom and pick her up. The classrooms are
locked around 7:00p.m. Again, at your convenience you may pick up or drop
off at any time. THANKS for wanting to bring her home. Three day weekends
and long holidays are best to take home our class pet!
--------------------------------------
May I come in and share a talent or interest with the class?
WE would absolutely love to have parents or any relative to come and talk to
us about their interests and talents! Again, write a note in your child's
SPOT folder to tell me when you can come!!
--------------------------------------
Will my child receive guidance from Mrs. Boitnott?
Yes, Mrs. Boitnott our school counselor will visit our classroom at least
twice a month. Each visit she will focus on important topics such as self
esteem, peer pressure, anxiety, friendships, (to name a few). If you feel the
need to speak with the counselor or perhaps have your child talk with her,
write a note or cive me a call!
--------------------------------------
Will my child learn how to write in cursive in this year?
I have introduced many of the lower case letters of the cursive alphabet. We
practice the strokes and I model how they are written. Writing in cursive
takes much practice, encourage your child to practice them at home also.
Soon they will have short homework assignments of practicing the cursive
letters! Be patient and encourage them to continue to keep trying. PRACTICE
IMPROVES A TASK tremendously!!!
