Your babies were WONDERFUL!!! They did an outstanding job on their play performance of "Stone
Soup." I enjoyed their little personalities and uncapped enthusiasm! They really SHINE for
their families. I hope this "gift" will bring you many memories to treasure - I know it will
for me.

We had a GREAT time at field day!! Thanks to Mrs. Lassere (Andrew's mom) who was able to help
out at our stations. We had some excited - then tired and wet - kids! Also a great big thanks
to Mrs. Freeland (Jessie's mom), Mrs. Krey (Mason's mom) and Ms. Ora (Kevin's grandmother) for
helping us with our scenery/village for our play. The kids did an amazing job of creating the
houses in the village and the "forest" backgroud for "Stone Soup" while these wonderful parents
managed and facilitated the painting with small groups of students taking turns. It was
organized CHAOS!! What fun and what an accomplishment for these kids to contribute to
their "OWN" play. THANKS so much!! Also, thanks to everyone for sending in "costume clothes"
for the play. We didn't get to have a dress rehearsal as planned for Friday - painting was
going on everywhere - but we are ready for the big day on Monday!
April 26, 2008
The Fun Fair was FUN, FUN, FUN! The children were adorable singing for their performance and
were excited all through the night playing games of chance and skill. Thanks to our "booth"
workers - Mrs. Krey (Mason's mom), Mrs. Mahoney (Ashley's mom), Mrs. O'Neill (Kevin's mom) and
Mrs. Freeland (Jessie's mom). You ROCK!!! and... Thanks to all the parents who sent in
donations for the "1st Grade Silent Auction - 'Tool Time' basket" (money to buy items for
it), "Sweet Shoppe" and "Cake Walk." And, of course, "KUDDOS" to all who attended and helped
support our PTA, our school and our children! YEAAAAAA!!

Oh Boy!!! The field trip to the aquarium was AWESOME! The kids had a wonderful time and
saw/learned about exciting sea creatures. A great big "THANK YOU" to our fantastic chaperones
who helped out with our trip: Mrs. Krey (Mason's mom), Mrs. Freeland (Jessie's mom), Mr. and
Mrs. Lassere (Andrew's parents), Ms. Eileen (Chellie's babysitter), Ms. Nadel (Alexus'
grandmother), Ms. Michelle (Jordan's mom) and Mr. O'Neill (Kevin's dad). Without these "Super
Star" volunteers, we could not have had such a successful trip. It allowed for smaller groups
to freely visit the exhibits. It was very crowded that day and these parents had eyes like a
hawk and never let a child in their care stray from thier sight. I can't tell you enough how
much help they were!! Kuddos to these volunteers who gave of their time to help the children
encounter a fabulous learning experience!
Also THANKS to ALL of our parents who helped make sure their child had all their goodies,
(packaged/labeled) had them to school early for class pictures (what a crazy way to start the
day) and sent them with a kiss and hug. The kids were great, enjoyable and well behaved. YEA
T-1 families!!!
April 14, 2008
WOW!! ~ our field trip to the Aquarium is approaching fast! The children are soooo excited!!
As you know from the notice sent home last week, Class Picture Day also falls on our field trip
day. In order to get all the 1st grade class pictures taken, we will have to start at 8:00
a.m. Please try to have your child at school before 8:00 in order that we can line up and BE
READY to take our picture. Also, thank you for sending in your child's permission slip/fee,
response for chaperones, and reply for bus/car riding parents. It takes a lot to plan a trip
and I appreciate your efforts to help out.
On another note, we have been busy learning our songs for our play. Our much anticipated play
for this year is "Stone Soup." The kids are very excited and looking forward to their
performances. There is however, going to be a change in the date of our performances. As
indicated on the calendar, I scheduled the play to be performed on April 28th & 29th. This was
before the "Spring Fling" (Fun Fair) date got changed to April 26th. Since so much is going on
in April, I have decided to move the performances back one week to May 5th & 6th. This will
give us more time to enjoy all the fun events in April and more time to practice and prepare. A
note will go home soon to give more info about our play. If your child has been singing about
"soup," now you know why!!
*** We need 3 appliance (dishwasher/dryer, etc.) boxes for our play to make houses. If anyone
can help me round these up, please let me know! THANKS!!!!!!
March 31, 2008
We have an exciting event planned for this week ~ PET DAY! Pet Day is set for Thursday, April
3rd. "Show and Tell" of pets will start at 8:30. You can meet at our classroom with your pet
at this time or send a note and let me know a better time for you. Each pet needs to come to
school and go home with a grown-up as well as be on a leash, or transported in a container or
cage. If the pet is small, it can visit with us all day! (No pets on the bus.)
Understandably, if it is not convenient for your pet to come to school, your child may bring a
photo or draw a picture to share with the class. If your family does not own a pet, your child
can draw a picture of a pet he/she "wishes" to have. This is fun for the children to share
something so dear to them as we intergrate our lessons into our curriculum. THANKS to YOU for
helping make our lessons meaningful and memorable!
I hope everyone had a WONDERFUL Easter holiday. We had a great time at our Easter egg
hunt/party. Thanks soooo much for sending in your child's eggs and goodies to share with the
class. Also thanks to the many parents who helped with hiding the eggs, walking to the park
with us and assisting in the classroom after the egg hunt. We are so blessed to have such great
parents to take care of us!!!!!
March 10, 2008
T-1 and First Grade Teachers would like to send out an "open" invitation for all to go see the
debut movie of a beloved Dr. Seuss classic, "Horton Hears a Who." All first grade teachers and
students can join each other for a night of fun! If you would like to join your child to meet
at The Grand Theater on Friday, March 14th around 7:00 p.m. - BE THERE!! Please respond to the
note that went home last week in order to reply your intentions. A class list will be compiled
in order that parents may call each other to make arrangments for carpooling, friends riding
together, etc. (Please note that this is NOT a school-sponsored event and NO chaperones will be
provided.) It is suggested that you purchase your tickets early due to the movie's first
playing and it may be a little crowded. Hope to see you at this FUN outing.
March 6, 2008
I would like to thank all parents who were able to volunteer their time or talents in helping
make our "Dr. Seuss" week a fun experiene for our class. We had many parents send in items for
our activities and several were able to come in and read a Dr. Seuss story to our class. The
students had a WONDEFUL time exploring this unique childen's author/illustrator. Thanks to Mrs.
Lassere (Andrew's mom), Mrs. Krey and "Uncle Eddie," (Mason's mom and uncle) and Mrs. Ainsworth,
(our assistant principal) for reading to us on Monday - the day we celebrated Dr. Seuss's
birthday. It was a meaningful week enriched wtih learning and fun. We have such a supportive
group of parents and I really appreciate all you do to help our class have fun learning!
February 25, 2008
We will be celebrating the birthday of a famous children's author, Dr. Seuss, beginning Monday,
March 3rd. (His real birthday is Sun., Mar. 2nd). In honor of his birthday, we will have a
week long reading celebration, highlighting some of our favoirte stories. As a special treat,
we would like to invite our parents, administration and special people to come into our
classroom to read a Dr. Seuss story. If you are interested, please let us know what day and
time you'd like to come in. (See class schedule to help with your plans.) We would love for
you to share in this special event.
February 22, 2008
Our T-1 and 1st graders will be going on a field trip to the Aquarium of the Americas on
Thursday, April 17th. If you can help chaperone, please make plans to attend. A permission
slip with all the details will be going home soon. Prior to this event, we will have the
Aqua Van visit our school (April 9th and 10th). This visit will allow for the students to
prepare with excitment as to what to expect at the aquarium as well as help us launch into our
classroom lessons as we learn about ocean life. Although a little early, I will be sending home
a letter this coming week to collect the $2.00 fee for the Aqua Van visit as I would like to get
it squared away before collecting the fee for our field trip.
On another note, if you can, please donate "classroom" snacks as we are running on "empty!"
...and, I don't want to forget...Thank you for all the "sweet treats" I received for Valentine's
Day. The kids had a great time exchanging cards and treats - the day was perfect! Thanks, too,
for sending in goodies to eat/drink and helping make our day FUN!! We LOVE our parents!!!!
January 26, 2008
WOW!! S.M.A.R.T. Night was a BLOW OUT!! Over 500 people attended - 90 pizzas served - and lots
of fun learning! It was so good to see a lot of my class attend. Thanks to the
parents/students who could come out for this awesome family event.
Another opportunity for BEE families to enjoy time together is coming up soon - "Breakfast with
a Special Person" is on Friday, Feburary 15th from 7:15-7:50 a.m. Forms went home last week.
Let us know if your family is planning on attending this event. RSVP's are due by Jan. 30 so
PTA/cafeteria can get a count and order food.
Don't forget our BEE Mardi Gras parade is this Tuesday (1/29 @ 1:30). Your child will need to
bring "throws" - beads, trinkets, wrapped candy, etc. If your child will be throwing beads,
please have the beads grouped by 10's and affixed with a paper wrap to keep them sorted and try
to avoid tangles. Also, your child can bring a Mardi Gras shirt to wear for the parade (over
their uniform). We will be making headbands for our "costumes" at school.
REMINDER - BEE yearbooks are on sale now - ONLINE! This year's yearbook will be hardback with
68 colored pages and can be ordered by going to www.jostensyearbooks.com or our school's
website - http://bonneecoleelementary.stpsb.org - click on the yearbook order link.

S.M.A.R.T Night is this Thursday (1/24, 6:00-7:30). You don't want to miss this great night of
learning, family fun and free food!! I encourage all of my T-1 families to attend. Becasue of
this very special night, there will be no homework this week. Hope to see you there!
January 16, 2008
Kdg, T-1 and 1st Grade will be having their very own "Mardi Gras" parade! We will parade down
our "traditional" Bonne Ecole route (on campus) along with honored guests (specially selected
students to be the King and Queen - for each grade) as well as special guests, Bonne Ecole
Starletts and Bonne Ecole 5th and 6th Grade Band. Our T-1 and 1st graders may bring a "Mardi
Gras" shirt in their book bag and put it on over their uniform during the parade. We will make
something special to wear on our heads. Please have each student bring their own "throws" -
beads, trinkets, small wrapped candies, etc. We are lucky enough to have the 6th graders be
our "helpers." They will help carry the beads, etc. for the children and help with those
inevitable tangles! Also, if your family would like to decorate a wagon for your BEE child to
ride in during the parade as their "float," our 6th graders will be assissting by pulling the
wagons. Be creative, decorate for fun, get in the spirit! The children love being in the
parade and look back on it as a very fond memory. All family and friends of Bonne Ecole are
invited. The big day is on Tuesday, January 29th at 1:30 p.m. We will start lining up in the
hallways around 1:15. See ya there - bring your camera!!

Happy New Year!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday filled with family, joy, laughter, fun...and rest!
Thanks to all who helped make my Christmas special. I appreciate all of the wonderful gifts the
children gave me. I have the most extraordinary class this year - very dear to my heart!
As we return back from the holidays, there have been new additions to our "learning" in our
classroom. The children have been enjoying the learning activities and games that I purchased
for the class from the fund raiser proceeds. Our class raised $150 and Andrew's parents donated
a $50 gift card. Here's a list of what your children are able to utilize to enhance their
learning. These items are used during "work stations" - when learning partners work together in
pairs while I work with individuals and reading groups.

Thanks to all who sent their well wishes and prayers for a healthy recovery while I was out for
my surgery. All is well now - can't move too fast, but fast enough - the children are so
compassionate and understanding. I am very happy to be back in the classroom - it does a soul
good to be back with the people you love/who love you!
October 28, 2007
I will be out for my surgery on Nov. 2nd-16th. Mrs. Elaine Riviere will be my substitute
teacher. Mrs. Riviere is a certified teacher who subs at our school all the time. I use her
exclusively when I have to be out. (She helped me out last year when I was out for 3 weeks.)
She knows my routines, teaching style, and T-1ers - and the students love her. I plan the
lessons daily to ensure the students are continuing to learn and she follows them with great
attention. (She "teaches" instead of "babysits.") I hate to be out, but I know the kids are in
good hands and will keep moving forward with their learning. Mrs. Riviere and I communicate
almost everyday when I am out and make sure that we guard our instructional minutes and maximize
the learning for your T-1er. If you have any questions, please write it in the "Parent/Teacher"
section of your child's daily/green folder and Mrs. Riviere will answer/find the answer - or
email me at either address (www.susan.schwaner@stpsb.org or www.ssschwaner@charter.net).
Thanks!!:)
October 26, 2007
Thank you to all the families who were able to donate their time and/or items for our "Fall
Fest." All the children had a GREAT time!!!! Our parent volunteers (you) helped make it a big
success! Additionally, Ms. Jennifer, Andrew's mom, brought party food for us to enjoy after the
big event. - And the kids really loaded up on all the goodies/prizes from the "Fall Fest" and
the goodie bags/candies sent in.
Didn't you LOVE the decorated pumpkin your child brought home?? The kids had soooo much fun
painting/decorating their pumpkins. Thank you parents for sending in a pumpkin for your child
and for sending all the craft supplies to add "personality" to the pumpkins. What a fun day:)
October 24, 2007
Don't forget that our class Halloween/Reading celebraion, "Things That Go Bump in the Night,"
will be on Tuesday, Oct. 30th. We will pretend it is nighttime all day long! Lots of stories,
activities, songs, plays and crafts will help us explore things at night.
Here's what to bring to school on the day of our party:
* PJ's
* sleeping bag or blanket
* pillow
* socks or slippers
* flashlight
* bedtime buddy
