Homework

Homework will be given nightly - with a homework schedule to outline what is
expected each week. It will be sent home in your child's "Daily Folder" -
including worksheets, reading words/stories, etc.  A parent must sign their
initials on the homework sheet included in the folder to indicate that he/she
has gone over their child's work for accuracy and returned the next school
day.

Additionally, because of the importance of building a strong foundation,
reading to/with your child each night is to be included in his/her homework
routine.  Remember, you are your child's first teacher and you play a vital
role in his/her academic development.  Please set aside 10-15 minutes a night
for quiet, one-on-one time with your child for reading.

The purpose of homework is to offer your child a chance to strengthen
his/her academic ability:  accept responsibility, postpone reinforcement,
tolerate frustration, perseverance, independent accomplishment and encourage willingness to learn.  With that said, it is important that your child do it, with minimal help from his/her parent - although it is very important that a parent be available for assistance with directions or when the child is having difficulty.  Also, have a quiet place with the necessary supplies available to your child.  Supplies needed are:  paper, pencil, eraser,
crayons, scissors and glue.

If your child/family has a hectic night or something special planned that
doesn't allow time for homework occasionally, that's okay, just have your
child complete it the next night (but, please jot me a note).  Believe me, I
have a family, too, and I DO understand!! But, please encourange your child
to practice good homework habits. Adhering to expectations is important.
