School Board District 15 Community Meeting for Parents is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., this coming Monday evening, Nov. 16, in the cafeteria at Boyet Jr. High.

Do you know what changes are being considered for the schools your children attend?  Say, within the next 5 years?  You might be very surprised.

Parents should know what these concepts below are, how they could affect our schools and our students, and what parents and teachers can do:

  • Career Track Diploma
  • Core-4
  • RTTT – “Race to the Top”
  • SPS – School Performance Score
  • RSD – Recovery School System – it’s not just for New Orleans anymore!
  • EMO’s – what are they, are they legal, should they receive your tax dollars, when they’re not in your parish, and when they’re not paying for what they took?
  • MFP – How much does St. Tammany get through the MFP to educate your children, especially considering how much St. Tammany sends to Baton Rouge in taxes?
  • Why does the RSD receive about three times more per child through the MFP than we do in St. Tammany, and more than any other parish in the state?
  • High School Redesign

 Mary K. Bellisario, District 15 Representative          bayouduo@bellsouth.net

Vice President, St. Tammany Parish School Board     mary.bellisario@stpsb.org

LIBRARY HELP NEEDED!!!
Mrs. Lemmon and Mrs. Stine would love to have some parent volunteers
this year in the library. We have a number of projects that we need help
with - from reshelving books, to putting magazines out to working with
computers! We will also need some volunteers to help out setting up and
tearing down the book fair this year which is scheduled for October 26 - 30
with set up on October 23rd. Our sponsor - Barnes and Noble Book Store has
requested some assistance and we feel certain there are a few game souls out
there who will volunteer! If you are interested in volunteering, please call
the school and ask for the library. 643-3775

SLIDELL 4-H CLUB:
Students in grades 4-8 are invited to join a new Science, Engineering, and
Technology (SET) 4-H Club. Dues are $15.00. The club will meet once a month
on a Saturday, at Camp Villere by Northshore Mall, for hands on learning and
experiments. Through non-formal, research based, experiential educational
activities, 4-H participants gain knowledge and life skills enabling them to
become positive, productive, capable and compassionate members of their
communities. If you have questions, please contact Janie Kelly
