English IV AP/G Summer Reading Assignments

Their Eyes Were Watching God

Ethan Frome

On the first day of school, you should bring one copy of a critical analysis
for each selection. This is not
your work, but another author's insight into an aspect of the story; for
instance, the characters, plot,
setting, or theme may be discussed in order to better explain or understand
the story. You may find
the critical analyses in a library or in the internet.

Wikipedia, Sparksnotes, etc. are not literary criticism and will not be
accepted. Should have questions
on where to find literary criticism, please email me.

8-18-08: Have syllabus, photo release, student information form completed,
signed and returned.

8-25: Precis assignment due.

8-26: Summer reading test.

9-4: Reading draft of essay #1 due.

9-5: Have copies of Tuesdays with Morrie and Beowulf in class.

Please see the class calendar for future homework/ reading assignments.
Remember, each day listed on the calendar lists what we will discuss in
class THAT DAY. So, if on 9-8-08, pages 1-18 are listed, when you come to
class you should have read those pages. We will discuss these readings in
class that day. The same calendar is listed on the board in class. If you
have a question about an assignment, EMAIL ME!
