Giving Life to the Men of Alpha Company
While reading the novel, The Things They Carried, by Tim O'Brien, students enrolled in Mrs. Barclay's
English I course organized virtual museums to memorialize the characters of Alpha Company.
Interestingly, the project concept mirrors O'Brien's technique of using fiction to evoke an emotional
truth. The museums constructed by students have become an of extension of O'Brien's stories,
preserving the emotional truth through fiction.
Each class created departments within the larger museum organization; each department held a
specific role: Artifacts Restoration, Historical Research, Museum Curators, Public Relations, and
