Make-up Days Dec. 7-11: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 3:40-4:30
Exam Review Guides have been posted in the handouts folders. Pay attention in class, and you'll get a lot more you can add to them! :-)
To all students: Mrs. Chance is NOT available during lunch. If you need a reading log signed, you need to plan ahead and ask her in class or in the hall between classes. Remember that you CANNOT take an AR test unless your AR log has been signed by me TWICE.
Due to holiday plans, Mrs. Chance will not be updating grades until the second weekend of Thanksgiving Break.
Thanksgiving Break is a wonderful time to work on AR because your points are due on December 7th! Have a nice break!
Dear Students: I love to get your emails so I can help you! But if you are emailing me at night and expecting me to respond that evening, you need to send your email before 8 pm. I am 8 months pregnant, and I do not stay up until all hours of the night like you young folks :-).
All classes: If you have a "p" for a grade, that means "pending." I'm letting you know I have received this assignment from you, but I'm not done grading it yet. I'll usually do this for large assignments only.
Enriched students: The Holocaust projects are still due on Wednesday. Make sure you have everything you need to work in the library on Tuesday and to bring your group's completed Power Point on Wednesday.
1st quarter grades have now been uploaded.
Bring Maus on Monday, Oct. 12th! Don't forget!
Due to high traffic in the library, I am extending the AR due date to the close of the library on Monday, Oct. 12th. This is the only time this year I will grant such an extension.
If you missed the short stories unit test on Monday Oct. 5th, you need to arrange to make it up after school on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (Oct. 6-8) of this week!! Let me know in advance what day you are coming.
All classes need to have Maus by October 12th!
All students and parents: I have recently experienced a problem among all my classes of throwing the class set of textbooks on the floor. I have had to pick up textbooks every day, even though students know my policy is to put the textbook in the basket under the desk at the end of class. I am sick of picking these textbooks up, and my pregnancy adds to the strain of doing this. From now on, I will be writing up anyone who leaves a textbook on the floor. Also, if a textbook is left on the floor, all of my students will lose the right to have the class set and will have to start bringing the textbooks I assigned them to class. Parents, please help me to remind students that it is important to respect school property and simple teacher requests.
Student Protocol for Emailing Mrs. Chance
2.Identify yourself within the text of your email. I can't always tell who you are from your email address. If I can't tell who you are, I will not take the time to respond to you because you didn't take the time to tell me who you are. Yes, this problem has happened far too often lately, dear students.
3. State your request or question clearly and politely. If your message sounds like a demand, I will not answer it.
4. Include a greeting and a closing.
5. Use reasonably correct grammar and punctuation (i.e. rules you learned by middle school, before you came to my class). If I find your grammar and punctuation careless and incorrect, I will assume that you do not want me to take the time to answer your question because you did not take the time to write correctly to me.
Library Book Order Forms are due Thursday, September 24.
Back to School Night-Thursday, Sept. 17th
The sale of Vocabulary Workshop in the library has been extended through Back to School Night (Sept. 17th). So, if you haven't gotten yours yet, there's still time. They are $10.25.
ATTENTION STUDENTS: School picture day is on Tuesday, Sept. 15th. We will go in my class to have your picture taken. All students will have their pictures taken for the yearbook, but if you want to purchase a package of pictures, make sure to bring the order form and money to school with you on Tuesday. Look nice on Tuesday!
All classes:
~
Many students still have not returned the textbook opt out form. If you do not return it by Friday, September 4th, I will issue you a paper textbook.
Parents: due to the large number of students who indicated they wished for a paper textbook, students may have to bring theirs to class each day, rather than using part of my class set. Because of the online textbook, however, students may leave their textbooks at home each day instead of lugging them to and from school each day.
~The library is now selling our Vocabulary Workshop: Level E for $10.25. You may bring your money to class on Wednesday when we go to the library, or you may also purchase it at lunch, or before or after school. I encourage you to get your vocabulary book this week because we will delve into vocabulary seriously starting next week. The cutoff date for buying a vocabulary book is September 10th!
~Mrs. Chance's 1st period only: Bring your $6.00 school fee to class by the end of this week. Failure to pay this fee will result in you being placed on the debt list!
Welcome to English I and to Captain Shreve! I am excited to be your English teacher this year! This year, you will improve your writing, reading, and critical thinking skills in my class as you develop into responsible Gators!
Students: Make sure to give the forms I gave you on the first day of class to your parents to be signed. They are due back to me on Thursday, August 20th!
Parents: Please ask your student about these forms if you haven't seen them yet.
