Syllabus
Title: Girl’s PE
Course: Physical
Education I, II,
Course Information/Credits: 1
½ Units of P.E. are required. These
units should be taken in the 9th and 10th grades.
Students are required to
have a special uniform and shoes conducive to physical education.
Students do not share
P.E. uniforms and P.E. lockers with friends. Course
Description: Physical
Education I and II-
general, full year, I credit for P.E. I, ½ credit for P.E. II.
These courses will stress
the development of cardiovascular fitness trough aerobic activities.
Some of these activities
are track and field, soccer, weight training, handball, basketball, and
physical fitness tests. Basic
skills, fundamentals, rules and patterns of play are stressed in all
activities. Other
activities include badminton, softball, tennis and volleyball.
Drug Education is also
apart of the curriculum, which will cover information on the affects of
alcohol on the body, the consequences on drinking and driving, illegal drugs,
and the abuse of legal drugs and prescription drugs. Physical
Education Evaluation: Grading will be based on course assignments in conjunction with class participation points, dressing out into school issued PE uniform, consistent attendance, and test scores. Participation= 5 points per day Dressing out= 5 points per day Total= 10 points per day Grading Policy: Dressing Out/Participation=60%, Tests=30%, Drug Education=10%
Grade quality points: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0
Grading Scale: 100-93= A, 92-85 = B, 84-74 = C, 73-66 = D, 65 and below= F
Locker Clean-Out: Each student is responsible for cleaning out their lockers the week prior to Midterm or Final Exams.
Checkout policy: If a student knows ahead of time that they will checkout during PE class, they must take all of their belongings with them, so they can change in the Health Room bathroom when they are checked out.
Attendance: If you missed class, you are to bring an admit slip to class the next day you are in attendance. I will not accept admit slips after 3 days. Unexcused Absent= -10 points per day Excused Absent= +10 points per day Suspended= -10 points per day BMR= -10 points per day ISS= +10 points per day Provided with completed assignment
Medical: A medical form will be sent home to all students for their parents to fill out. All medical problems (allergic reactions, physical inabilities, asthma, etc.) pertaining to any physical activity that prevents or inhibits the student need to be listed. If the student is physically unable to participate in gym, at any time during the year, a doctor’s note must accompany the student. The student must still dress out to receive dress out points, but the student does not have to participate; instead, the student will copy 50 vocabulary words, write the definition for each word, and use each word in a sentence, to receive participation points per day.
Dress Code: Physical Education dress code includes a PE issued gym T-shirt, PE issued gym shorts, and TENNIS SHOES. In order to receive 5 total points per day, the student must wear all items listed above. A student may bring warm up pants or jogging pants in the cold months of school. If a student does not dress out, they will be sent to Behavior Management Room.

Food Policy: NO eating during class; only bottled water during class. NO flavored water or sodas will be allowed.
Restroom Policy: Students must use the restroom while they are in the locker room. Students may not leave class to use the restroom.
BMR Assignment: Student will be given a dictionary to copy vocabulary words, the definition of the word, and the usage of the word in a sentence. 1st offense=150 words; 2nd offense=200 words; 3rd offense=250 words. See student handbook for disciplinary action from the school.
Tests: A Physical Fitness Test and a Vocabulary Test will occur at the beginning of the school year and again at the end of the school year to assess students’ abilities. Students may receive their results if requested. Written test will also be given after each specific unit. Drug Education will be taught three-four weeks out of the year. Midterms and Final Exams are given during the appropriate times.
Order of events: The students will have 5 minutes to get dress into gym clothes. The students will have 5 minutes to dress in. (10 minutes if a shower is required after an activity). Students will then get into roll call order and perform the stretching routine given by the teacher. The activity for the day will start after instruction.
Class Guidelines:
1. Do not run or horseplay in the locker room. 2. Do not leave the locker room or gym without permission from the teacher. 3. You must dress out everyday unless otherwise stated by the teacher. 4. You must lock your locker before you leave the area and locker room. 5. You MAY NOT enter the locker room once it is locked. 6. If you have to go to the bathroom you must use the restroom by the Health room. 7. If you have to check out, please inform the teacher prior to dressing out. 8. If you are late to class without an excuse, and do not dress out, you will loose points. 9. You must be in your assigned roll call seat when roll call is taken. 10. You should always be respectful to your classmates and your teacher. 11. You should always think before you speak or react. 12. You should always share and take turns. 13. You can not buy drinks after the tardy bell rings or during class. 14. You should treat others the way you want to be treated. 15. You may not bring soft drinks to the gym, classroom, track, etc. 16. Only bottled water and sports drinks are allowed.
