AP Physics students are conducting engineering project research and writing the introduction with references for their project papers due Monday, October 5, 2009. Physics students are using graphing calculators, CBL units and motion sensors to conduct multiple experiments for the time rate of motion, velocity and acceleration. Physical Science students have Unit 1 test on Sept. 29, 2009. Students will be conducting lab activities in classifying matter, rates of dissolving, phase changes and physical and chemical changes thru October 8, 2009. Engineering/AP Physics Projects are assigned in advance and are expected to be completed and turned in on time. Many turn in dates are on Monday for projects. See the calendar. SciPort engineering field day for 2009 is February 17. Selected students received invitations to attend. Louisiana Region 1 Science and Engineering Fair is March 5-7 at the Bossier Civic Center. Selected students will attend. Entries due to Dr. McCoy by February 9, 2009. Rewrites for Engineering Projects are due no later than February 9, 2009. Semester grades are posted for 1/9/2008. Project acknowledgements and abstract are due Monday, January 12, 2009. Project backboards, models, research papers and logs are due Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Shadow Day is Monday, February 2, 2009. Students have the assigment. Ask to see it. Congratulations to Captain Shreve seniors Mitch M., Brooke J., Margaret M., Shawn M., and Reeves P. for earning physics credit during LSU Spring Testing. Captain Shreve students recently competed in the Louisiana Science and Engineering Fair held at LSU in Baton Rouge. Placing third in computer science was sophomore David M. and winning fourth place in physics and astronomy was senior Lauren B. Congratulations to these winners and to all that participated. Captain Shreve students won first place in design engineering and civil engineering at the SciPort Engineering Olympics in February 2008. Teams were headed by Patrick W. and Freddy M. Captain Shreve students won the second place Sweepstakes Trophy at the 2008 science and engineering fair this weekend. Winner in physics and astronomy were Lauren B., first place and Jordan B., second place. Winners in engineering were Nick O., first place, Hunter W., second place, Elizabeth C., third place and Patrick W., third place. David M. placed third in computer science. Congratulations to our participants and winners. Handout for the 2009-2010 Engineering Project is posted in the Handouts section including all due date and a description of what is due. An example of an A research paper with concept definition, problem statement, hypothesis and references is posted in room 301 for students to view as a guide in writing the paper which is due October 5, 2009. Grades are updated weekly. Parents and student may access student grades by using the six digit student number. DO NOT use the zero in the front of the number. Please click on Supply List above for materials and fees for classes and school. As many of you know our science department had a $100,000 grant for Swampology in the 2007 school year which has provided us with much needed technology. The English department just secured another $100,000 grant for their department's Swampology Too proposal. Congratulations to the librarians and English teachers who worked on the grant proposal. Students and teachers benefit when new technology is incorporated into classroom learning. If a student does not have a progress report, grades are posted on this web site by class periods. Just type in the last name, first name and the six digit student number without the zero in the front. All student grades can be accessed in this manner. The site is updated weekly.
