NewsFlash NewsFlash Content: <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>AP Physics students are conducting engineering project research and writing <BR> the introduction with references for their project papers due Monday, October <BR> 5, 2009.<BR> <BR> Physics students are using graphing calculators, CBL units and motion sensors <BR> to conduct multiple experiments for the time rate of motion, velocity and <BR> acceleration.<BR> <BR> Physical Science students have Unit 1 test on Sept. 29, 2009. Students will <BR> be conducting lab activities in classifying matter, rates of dissolving, <BR> phase changes and physical and chemical changes thru October 8, 2009.<BR> <BR> Engineering/AP Physics Projects are assigned in advance and are expected to <BR> be completed and turned in on time. Many turn in dates are on Monday for <BR> projects. See the calendar.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Captain Shreve won the BPCC/Region I Louisiana Science and Engineering Fair third place <BR> Sweepstakes award Saturday. Points were awarded based on special awards, category placement and <BR> student presenters. All student category winners are elgilble to participate in the state <BR> engineering fair.<BR> <BR> Adam P.placed first in engineering – electrical and mechanical; won the Air Force first place <BR> award in engineering; and the National Society of Professional Engineering’s first place award <BR> for Innovation in Engineering.<BR> <BR> Ashley T. placed second in engineering – electrical and mechanical; and won the Louisiana <BR> Engineering Society first place award in engineering.<BR> <BR> Trevor W. placed third in engineering – materials and bioengineering; and won the U. S. Navy <BR> first place award in engineering.<BR> <BR> Philip C. placed third in energy and transportation and the team of Chris M. and Colin R. placed <BR> third overall in engineering team competition.<BR> <BR> Congratulations to these winners and all who participated in the fair.<BR> <BR> 17 students will represent Shreve at the Region 1 Science and Engineering Fair on March 5, 2009 <BR> Set up 3-6pm; March 6, 2009 arrive 8:45am thru 3:00pm for judging. March 7, 2009 Awards are at <BR> 10:00a.m. All events are at Bossier Civic Center on Benton Road across from Tubb's Hardware.<BR> <BR> SciPort engineering field day for 2009 is February 17. Selected students <BR> received invitations to attend.<BR> <BR> Louisiana Region 1 Science and Engineering Fair is March 5-7 at the Bossier <BR> Civic Center. Selected students will attend. October 6, 2008 <BR> project concept definition with problem statement, human need and hypothesis, literature review <BR> with citations and the bibliography are due. Students are given three days in class to prepare <BR> to write this assignment and turn in by October 6.<BR> <BR> <BR> Grades were updated 9/26/08 and include test grades from Tuesday in all classes and the recent <BR> safety quiz in engineering. Enter the six(6) digit student number without the zero in the front <BR> to see your grade.<BR> <BR> Engineering students will be conducting library research on their engineering project idea <BR> seeking to make a case for the concept and the human need for the project on Sept. 29, 30, Oct. <BR> 1, 2008.<BR> <BR> Physics students will be working on velocity lab and problems this next week.<BR> <BR> Engineers will soon be constructing a catapult for testing.<BR> <BR> The phyiscs test was 100 points and the engineering test was 120 points. 92% of students made <BR> an A on these tests. This was excellent work by most students on these tests. Those who made <BR> less that a B need to work harder when studying. Studying every day might help.<BR> <BR> Engineering students are in the process of small group discussion regarding their engineering <BR> projects. Small groups approved all projects presented today with the exception of one where <BR> changes need to be made. The students with teacher guidance are participating in the approval <BR> process.<BR> <BR> The next class project for freshmen will be designing, constructing, testing and redesiging, <BR> adjusting and retesting catapults. Catapults will be built at home and the teacher will furnish <BR> the mouse trap to be used.<BR> <BR> ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++<BR> <BR> Congratulations to Captain Shreve seniors Mitch M., Shawn M., and Reeves P. <BR> for earning physics credit during LSU Spring Testing.<BR> <BR> Captain Shreve students recently competed in the Louisiana Science and <BR> Engineering Fair held at LSU in Baton Rouge. Placing third in computer <BR> science was sophomore David M. and winning fourth place in physics and <BR> astronomy was senior Lauren B. Congratulations to these winners and to all <BR> that participated<BR> <BR> Upcoming events - Principles of Engineering Egg Drop, Chinese Engineering, La Tech field trip to <BR> science and engineering field day, attendance at ASHRAE state meeting for invited students, and <BR> speakers on HVAC and energy conservation in building for Principles students. Scheduled <BR> speakers Kurt Lyles, mechanical engineer, Dee Nooner and Greg Coates.<BR> <BR> Captain Shreve engineering magnet freshmen, Morgan H., won best overall prize at the annual <BR> Centenary Egg Drop "Humpty Fest" held Sunday at Centenary College.<BR> <BR> Side note: Clay N., Centenary College freshmen, and a former Captain Shreve gator won best <BR> use of physics in the least mass competition of the Egg Drop.<BR> <BR> Congratulations to Morgan, Clay and all who participated in the contest.<BR> <BR> An egg drop contest will be held at the Louisiana Boardwalk in the near future.
