How can I get in touch with you?

There are several ways. The quickest way is email. My address is
kristy.scroggs@stpsb.org . Email is best for short communication, and can
be used to set up conferences. Another way is to jot a note in your child's
agenda. You may also call the office at 643-8593 to leave a message. I
usually do not receive phone messages until the end of the day. I do not
make a practice of leaving class to take phone calls.

My child's birthday is next week. Can I send in something for the class?

Yes, you may send in cookies, cupcakes, or individually wrapped treats. I am
not equipped to cut and serve cakes. (Parents may send in a precut king cake
with napkins! If drinks are sent, they must be
canned, bottled or boxed. Please send napkins! There are 23 students in
our class. Balloons can not be brought.

We couldn't get homework finished last night, what should we do?

Please write a note whenever a homework assignment is missed with an
explanation, and the student will not be penalized as long as the student
shows me the completed assignment the following day. STUDENTS are
responsible for showing the assignment to me! I will not ask for it.

What is Accelerated Reading?

A.R. is an incentive-based reading program. Students choose books within
their reading level range, and take computerized tests on the books scoring
at least an 85%, earning points.
Each student has a point goal based on their own individual reading level,
which is determined by the STAR test.
Students are allowed to test everyday and can see their point total and goal
after testing. Students meeting their goal are rewarded at the end of
each grading period.

How do I know what my child's grades are?

Graded papers are sent home every Thursday. Parents are to sign and return
papers in the Eagle's Eye on Friday. Parents may keep papers over the
weekend for review if needed, as long as they send a note. Parents may also
use STI Home. Grades are posted about once a week. Directions for STI
Home's use were sent to each family from the school board.

State testing is coming soon. What can I do to help my child?

My Links button offers several practice/tutoring sites for Language Arts.
One of the sites even lets you take a practice test. Brainpop.com allows
students to watch free short videos on a daily basis on topics that are
usually tested on state-wide tests. The other advice I would offer is READ,
READ, READ! It is the number one way to improve all subject areas. Make
sure that the books your child is choosing are on the appropriate level, and
that your child reads for AT LEAST thirty minutes a day.
