My name is Yvonne Populis. I am a mother of two boys. My oldest son is
a senior at Slidell High School, and my younger son is a seventh grader at
Slidell Junior High School. I received my undergraduate degree from Dordt
College. I later obtained a masters degree in reading from Southeastern
University of Louisiana. I have been teaching at Chahta-Ima Elementary School
for twenty years, and it holds an important place in my heart.
My mission every year is that all students can learn. I believe that
all children have a weakness and a strength. My goal is to help every child
use his/her strength to improve the area that he/she finds difficult. I
believe that every child learns in different ways, and I try to reach out to
a variety of learning styles in every lesson. I also believe and teach that
every child in my class is an important member of a group. I encourage a
display of respect and consideration from my students in every activity.
There are times when the children will be learning directly from me. They
will also learn from each other, from books, from the computer, and from
other resources. I believe that children need to be actively involved in
their learning experiences!
