Rules, Consequences, & Procedures

Classroom Goals

BE THERE! When you are here, be here! Pay attention when listening to ANY person! Do not give ANYONE partial attention! EVERYONE deserves 100%!

CHOSE YOUR ATTITUDE! Your attitude determines your altitude! If you have a good attitude, things will go better for ALL involved!

MAKE THEIR DAY! Everyone likes to be patted on the back, complimented, or praised. Take some initiative and spread a little joy, DAILY!

PLAY AND HAVE FUN! We will be spending 2-4 hrs a day together! Break up the monotony! Besides, it has been shown that if emotion is present while learning occurs, information stays longer! We only live once; make it count!

Classroom Rules

BE NICE. Respect, good manners, and safety are a requirement in a good learning environment.

TELL THE TRUTH. Honesty is always the best policy. It takes an eternity to earn someone’s trust and only one lie to lose it.

STAY ON TASK. When told to do something—DO IT! That way you are less likely to get in trouble and have less work to bring home!!

ALL parish and school rules apply here too. Review the handbooks!!

Classroom Rewards

HOMEWORK PASSES will be issued for regular completion of assignments.

COMPUTER TIME will be allowed for fun educational internet games, such as Typershark, Lemonade Stand, or Descrambler.

“FUN” ACTIVITIES will be planned when overall class behavior is excellent, such as cooking, art projects, etc!!

MOVIE TIME will be available when there are movies/shows that correlate with what we are learning and written assignments have been completed. (Students NOT completing written assignments will be sent to another room to do alternate written assignments.)

Consequences

Warnings may be issued. However, your 1st warning is these, school, & parish rules.

Parent Contact will occur thru one, some, or all of the following: written notes/notices, phone contact, STI online grading, or parent/teacher conferences.

Detentions 1: Lunch detentions are to be served at a designated spot during your recess time—length will vary, depending on the offense. After School Detentions are usually 30-45 minutes in length and are usually served with me. Parents must provide transportation home.

Essays 1 can be assigned. They come on a specific form with detailed instructions.

A Referral to office will result for severe infractions or repeated smaller infractions. This has several possible outcomes: a warning, a 60 minute after school detention, a Saturday detention, an in house suspension or an out of school suspension.   This is not an exhaustive list. There are alternative disciplinary actions.

Misbehavior for a Substitute will NOT be tolerated, as a substitute is a guest on our campus & should be treated as such. It will result in MULTIPLE PM detentions OR a Saturday detention, as per our class rules AND Creekside's school handbook.

1 All of these require written parental notification. Essays/detentions cannot be accepted/served without signed parental acknowledgement. These are not, necessarily in chronological order. Consequences may be issued out of order, depending on the infraction.

STANDARD CLASSROOM POLICIES FOR OUR CLASS

ALWAYS TRY! A good attitude is all it takes to go far in life and school. DO NOT QUIT!!

Unexcused Tardies are not acceptable. Students that are tardy to class will recieve an administrative PM detention OR will not be permitted to leave the class for bell breaks for 24 hours. Restroom usage is not allowed on lockdown, even if the child has fulfilled all planner requirements.

Excused & Unexcused Absences are not a good idea because students miss instructional time. If anything was passed out the day of the absence, it can be found in the “Missing Something?” folder. It is students’ responsibility to get missed assignments from a classmate, to schedule missed tests, and to check the Missing Something folder. ALL make-ups MUST be completed in a timely manner. The STI computerized grade book may not allow make-up grades for an unexcused absence. These grades will be averaged in as ZEROS. Out of school suspensions are NEVER excused.

Entering class is done in a quiet, calm manner. This is a place of instruction, not play or socialization. Pencils are to be sharpened at this time and supplies are to be out and ready to use. Students will begin working on the bellwork or assignments.

I only pass things out ONCE. If something is lost, it is the student’s responsibility to get a copy. The library has a student copier that costs 10c per copy.

Bellwork (ADD, DOL, SSR, etc) is to be completed upon entering class. It may be on the board, on the overhead, or on a worksheet.   They are to be kept in the appropriate place in the binder. Students will be given quizzes/tests on these.

Vocabulary is an extremely important part of a child’s education. It is a part of the curriculum that is often forgotten. When vocabulary words are assigned, students are expected to define them, study them, and know them all year. They are to be kept in the appropriate place in the binder all year. Tests/Quizzes will be given on these!

Quizzes/Tests will be given regularly. Quizzes usually count for less than 100 pts, while tests count for 100 pts or more. When tests are given, I occasionally give a pretest as an assignment. Homework passes cannot be used on these. Students will receive a detention and a zero if they are not completed. If any tests/quizzes are multiple choice, answers MUST be written in CAPITAL LETTERS.   If any are true/false the whole word must be written, not just “T” or “F”. If I cannot read the answer it is wrong.

Projects will be assigned. Occasionally they will be in cooperation with your child’s Science, Social Studies, or elective teacher(s.) Please be aware that OFTEN projects are graded in more than one subject. The Science Fair is just one example of this. Your child will have science requirements and grades for that teacher AND will have ELA requirements and grades for me.

Classwork/Homework will be completed for an assignment grade. Failure to complete any assignment in a timely manner will result in a lower grade and disciplinary action. Homework passes may be earned, however there will be some assignments that passes CANNOT be used on.

Late completion of assignments is not a good idea. Children will be docked 10% of the assignment’s value, per day, for a maximum penalty of 30%, when this occurs.

Restroom/ Locker use is only permitted ONE time per week, IF the child has correctly used the planner all week. However, this privilege can be revoked.

Homework/Restroom/ Locker Passes can be earned for POD’s, good test grades, exemplary behavior/effort, good citizenship, etc.

Nine weeks’ exam is cumulative. The school board mandates this and requires that it be counted as 20% of a student’s final grade. An exam review will be given as an open notes/notebook test grade. Students will receive a zero if this is not completed.

Interims/Progress reports will be issued between report cards with current averages on them. They MUST BE SIGNED AND RETURNED WITHIN 3 SCHOOL DAYS. Disciplinary action will occur, if they are not. Interims will be issued, parish wide, 4 tmes. See my calander for those dates. Additionally, beginning this year, your child’s grades will be available online through our STI grade book program. The parish will be sending you information on this shortly.

STI home is now available to monitor your child's schedule, attendance, current averages, activity grades, & report card grades. The address is: HTTPS://STIHOME.STPSB.ORG

Planner usage will be monitored through pop “quizzes” and restroom/locker usage. Planners must be completed for core subjects daily and must have one parent signature weekly. For our class, the objective and assignment must be written.
