THE
FLAT STANLEY
PROJECT
Our class is involved in a very fun and
exciting Geography project based on the book “Flat Stanley” which was written by
Jeff Brown. In the book, Stanley Lambchop is flattened by
a falling bulletin board. One of the advantages
to being flat is that his parents can put him in a large envelope and mail him
for a visit to his friends in California.
In this project, the students make
paper Flat Stanleys and mail them to friends, relatives, or famous people. You have been chosen to be a very special
part of our project. We hope that you
will treat Stanley like a guest. Take him with
you when you can and record each of his adventures in his daily journal. Then, after 4 – 5 days, mail him to someone
you know, along with his journal and this letter. We would appreciate it if you would send us a
letter or postcard to let us know how Stanley is doing and where he
is. Each student will keep track of
where Stanley has been by marking a map we have on display when we receive your
letter or postcard. You will find our
address at the bottom of this letter.
Although it is not necessary, the students also love getting pictures
from Stanley. If you have access to the
Internet, you can e-mail us at mhayes1@lincolnschools.org
with your letter and pictures.
We hope that you will help us with this
project by hosting Stanley for a short while, mailing (standard postal service or e-mail) us
to let us know about you’re your part of the world, and then sending Stanley and his journal on to
someone else. If your
are in possession of Stanley on May 1, we ask that
you send him back to our school so that he can be reunited with the person who
made him.
Thank you,
