October 20, 2009
Dear Parents,
I can not believe the first nine weeks is over! We have had a busy and
exciting beginning to our fourth grade year. Our transition to the 2nd 9
weeks has gone quite smoothly, and we are off running again.
I would like to update you on the Accelerated Reader Program. Some of
my students did not make their goal for the 1st 9 weeks. This was very
disappointing to me. I do not feel that some of my students are reading to
their ability. This should be a top priority every night. At least 15
minutes a night should be spent on AR reading at home. Your child is often
given time in class to read, there is no reason why any child could not make
their goal for any nine weeks period. The AR goal for the 2nd 9 weeks
remains 17 pts. Students must read books on their individual STAR level.
The last day to take tests for the 2nd 9 weeks is
December 18, 2009.
We are starting a novel in reading this nine weeks. It is called Sarah,
Plain and Tall. We will be reading this novel aloud in class. They will
answer questions on each chapter as we finish reading. All of their
questions are kept in their novel packet. The students have done really well
with their first novel. I am looking forward to many more.
The students will bring home their report cards Friday, October 23.
Please review this document carefully with you child. You may keep one copy
for your records. Please sign the school copy and return it to me along with
the envelope on Monday, October 26.
I have really enjoyed being a part of your child’s learning experience.
I appreciate your support and effort to help your child succeed. If you have
any concerns please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Deanna Wagner
