I am beginning my 24th year of teaching. All of my teaching years have
been in Caddo Parish. My first six years were spent teaching first grade. I
moved to Eden Gardens 19 years ago and shortly afterward began teaching
second grade. I am a National Board Certified teacher. I was blessed to
have been an "Eden Gardens" parent when my son attended. He is now a
graduate of LSU in Baton Rouge and is a Mechanical Engineer for a company
here in Shreveport. I am thrilled to
have my "Eagle" return home to the nest! I have always valued the foundation
he received while at Eden Gardens. This is truly a wonderful, loving place
to grow up.
In addition to my teaching dutes, I serve on the committee
that puts together and sells our "Eagle Spirit" yearbook. Away from school, I
love spending time with my husband and my two step-children going fishing,
attending sporting events, and traveling.
I feel that in a given school year, I have the power and privilege to
impact the lives of my students. I have the awesome responsibility of
shaping their futures by providing the very best foundations I possibly can
using a variety of teaching approaches and materials. The foundations I
strive to form include a strong skill base, as well as, a love and
enthusiasm for learning. I also feel a deep responsibility for teaching my
students organizational skills that will help them as they progress. During
the year that my students are in my care, I strive to teach the "whole
child." I take great care in getting to know my students through their
writings, through class discussions, through parent conferences and
interviews, and lastly through constant evaluation of their progress toward
learning goals. I feel challenged each day to find ways to bring out the
best in my students. I also want to encourage my students to look for the
best in others. I see my classroom as a learning community where each child
plays an important role and finds many ways to use the gifts he or she has.
