This will be my fifth year at Fairfield Magnet as a 4th grade teacher.
Before that, I taught fifth grade at Walnut Hill Elementary for three years.
I graduated from Northwestern State University with a Bachelor of Arts in
Elementary Education. I have a wonderful husband, L.J., and
we have little girl, Emma Claire. We also have a
Bassett Hound named Flash.
I believe that teaching should be student centered. When learning is student
centered, learning becomes both interesting and fun for the students. If
learning is fun then this increases the students' attention and participation
in class. From my experience, I also believe that students learn best when
they are allowed to work with manipulatives, in cooperative groups, and with
hands on activities. Learning is enhanced when the students are able to work
with hands on materials because instead of only hearing the material, they
also have the chance to work with the materials. This allows the studentsto
pose their own questions and to draw their own conclusions. Teaching this way
can enhance learning and make it fun, but as a teacher, you have to remember
not all students are the same.
I believe that all students can learn, but they do not all learn the same
way.
When teaching, it is also important that you reach all the students in the
classroom. As a teacher, you must remember that not all students learn the
same; therefore, it is important that we address multiple intelligences in
the
classroom. By applying multiple intelligences in the classroom, the teacher
is
promoting learning to all students and providing them with an equal
oppoutunity to learn. Finally, I believe that technology should be used
frequently in the classroom. Technology has become a common use in today's
society. By using technology in the classroom, the students not only learn
how
to use the technology, but they are also able to learn from it. I have had
great success with the students when I used PowerPoint to teach. They are
focused on the lesson, and I had excellent participation. In order to keep my
philosophy current and up-to-date, it is my responsibity to keep up with the
new teaching theories and remain open to new suggestions and ideas, so that I
can give my studetns the best education possible.
