Grading Policies & Rules

Grading Policy:

** Grades will come from quizzes, chapter/unit tests, performance tasks, projects, participation, review/readiness work, current events, Daily Social Studies, ISN assignments and evaluations, enrichment, class work, homework, and comprehensive nine week exams. Students will be made aware of the point value for each assignment.

Final Grades are computed using the following percentages:

ISN, Unit/Skills Assessments, Tests, Performance Tasks & Quizzes = 70% Homework = 10% Exam = 20%

** Students and parents should monitor class progress using “STI” – the school board’s on-line record-keeping system. Each Friday, students will be able to earn extra points by turning in a parent-signed printout of their grade report from “STI”. Only reports printed with a Thurs. pm date or Fri. am date are acceptable – early printouts will not have updated information which must be included on the report to receive points. **Those who do not have an STI user id and pin# should contact the school office

.

** When a student is absent, even for one day, it is the student’s responsibility to inquire about missed assignments. If a test/quiz is missed, it is the student’s responsibility to schedule a time with Mrs. Fitz to make up the test.

**TEACHER WEB makes keeping up very easy – even when absent, a student can access my TeacherWeb page (click the “Homework/Assignment” icon to see what was missed. Printing missed assignments will also be possible by accessing one of the “Handout” icon options – these are organized according to assignment description. My TeacherWeb page can be accessed through our school’s web site by following the prompts.

**Any graded assignment or test which is not made up before exam week in each nine-week period will be given a zero.

** It is in the student’s best interest to make-up all work as soon as possible after returning from an absence.

** Homework is any work done outside of the classroom for reinforcement or readiness purposes. Written homework should last no more than 20 minutes/ day, however students should review their notes and class work on a nightly basis to better prepare themselves for daily quizzes and chapter tests.

** Homework assignments are valued at 20 points. Late homework is NOT accepted!

**Students are expected to record assignments in their planner everyday.

** Performance tasks ( oral reports, research papers, projects, etc.) and unfinished class work are not considered “homework” and will receive a formal grade. Incomplete ISN assignments are also considered “unfinished class work” and must be completed at home if not finished during class time. Students will be made aware of the point value given for each assignment.

** Points will be deducted from any assignment that is turned in late (one day max)**
