What is Quick Start?

Quick Start is a daily proofreading activity.  Students identify 
and correct 
errors in grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. One 
Quick 
Start 
grade is given as an English grade each nine weeks.  A total of 
130 new 
vocabulary words are introduced throughout the year via the Quick 
Start 
activity.  Tests are given after each set of twenty words.  
Vocabulary is 
part of the English grade.

Will a spelling grade be given?

Spelling is part of the English grade.Each nine weeks students 
will be given one or two
spelling tests from the list of Often Misspelled Words.

Can a student earn extra credit?

Occasionally crossword puzzles will be given.  A correct puzzle 
gives a 
student 5 extra points that can be added to a test grade.  Also, 
+2 coupons 
are sometimes given for outstanding  work.  These can be added to 
test grades.

What about writing?

Students do all writing assignments in class. They will do  
narrative, 
expository, descriptive, and persuasive essays.  Writing 
assignments usually 
take a week of class time and several weeks for grading.  A 
writing 
assignment is usually worth 200 points.  (100 pts. writing 
process, 100 
points final draft)
