Grading Policies/Class Rules

                      Mrs. Dupuis's Language Arts Block

 

Supplies

     1.  #2 pencils

     2.  blue or black pen

     3.  red pen

     4.  two 3-ring binders

     5.  12 tabs or dividers for binders

     6.  one 3-prong folder with pockets

     7.  1 box tissues or 1 roll paper towels

Classroom Expectations

  1. Punctuality
  2. Preparedness (#2 pencil, blue or black pen, red pen, binders, textbooks, library book, homework)
  3. Respectful behavior
  4. No gum, food, or drinks
  5. Best effort always
  6. Enthusiasm!!!

Grades

  1. Scale… 92-100 A; 83-91 B; 74-82 C; 65-73 D; 0-64 F
  2. All tests and homework are returned and reviewed in class. Students should keep these until the 9 weeks ends.
  3. Reading grade = 50% tests (at least six 100-point grades), 10% homework, 20% Reading Counts, 20% exam
  4. English grade = 70% tests, essays, (at least eight 100-point grades) 10% homework, 20% exam

Make-up Work

  1. Upon return to school, check "While you were absent…" board for work and/or tests missed.
  2. 3 school days to make up homework and tests. Additional days given for extended absences only after consultation with teacher.
  3. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule make-up tests before school, at lunch, or during Reading Counts.

Punish Work

  1. Assigned for failure to meet classroom expectations
  2. Note sent home giving work assigned, reason, due date…parent/guardian signature required
  3. Parental note and punish work kept on file
  4. Consequences for non-compliance and/or note not returned with signature
    1. work is doubled, another night given for completion
    2. work is tripled, must be done in back of room during 1 block, missed tests and/or classwork must be made up on student’s time (before school or at lunch)
    3. parent/guardian conference

Reading Counts Guidelines

  1. 15 minutes silent reading daily
  2. Reading Counts books only
  3. RC books checked out from library during class library periods, before school, or at lunch (NOT during regular class)
  4. Reading Counts grade (20% of 9 weeks grade)
