FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How do I get into Talented Theatre? Entrance into Talented Theatre is through a two-step evaluation process that consists of an interview, performance of a monologue, and a variety of guided activities involving movement, creativity, use of voice, characterization, imagination, pantomime, and/or improvisation. The student will be screened initially by a district evaluator. Upon passing that screening, the student will then be evaluated by a state evaluator. Students interested in trying out for Talented Theatre should request an Audition Packet from their Guidance Counselor. This packet explains the audition process in complete detail and contains a list of acceptable plays from which audition monologues may be drawn. They should come by and see me and I will help them choose a monologue from the state list. I like to have a performance each semester. Since I do the all-school musical in November, I will have a workshop-type of performance in October. We will probably do a musical number from the fall all-school musical at Hurricane Highlights and have a spring performance in April or May. That is four opportunities to perform during the school year. What kind of plays do you perform? The short answer to that question is that we do plays that are both school acceptable and of interest to the students. We have a play-reading committee at each school who reads and approves any play before the students see it. Play selection guidelines include: appropriateness for grade/age level, community interest, past success, talent pool, and other considerations deemed important by the review group. When will my child meet class? Talented Theatre is a pull-out class on the junior high level. The students meet for a two-hour class once a week. I check everyone's schedule and assign them to a class. Dr. Schneider has requested that the students not miss their ELA block as that is what is tested on the LEAP test for 8th graders. If a student is having difficulty in classes missed due to Talented Theatre, please let me know. The guidance counselors are very cooperative in changing schedules. How do I exit my child from Talented Theatre? If you and/or your child decide that he/she does not want to attend Talented Theatre due to grades, changing interests, etc., let me know. I will schedule an exit IEP meeting. Your child will remain eligible for services as long as his/her evaluation remains current. |
