Procedures are a part of life. We follow procedures for using a
telephone book, boarding an airplane, approaching a traffic
light, and attending a wedding. The reason we have procedures in
life is so that people can function in society knowing the
acceptable and efficient ways other people do things.
There are also procedures in this classroom. These procedures
establish our classroom culture.
Entering the classroom
You are expected to enter the classroom walking and using an
inside voice; go straight to you assigned seat.
Getting to work immediately
Everyday there will be an agenda on the board. Read the agenda
to prepare yourself for the day. Also, there will be an
assignment posted on the board. You are to do that assignment as
soon as you enter the classroom. By the time the bell rings you
should already be working on this.
When you are tardy
You are expected to get your supplies ready and be in your seat
by the tardy bell; anyone not in their seat at this time is
considered tardy. If you are tardy you are to sign the tardy log
hanging near the door on the blue clipboard.
Seating
Sit only in your assigned seat. The seating chart will change to
allow all students to sit in different locations in the room. If
you have special needs, please let me know.
Leaving the room
You will be given 3 passes to leave the classroom each quarter.
This is the only way you will be allowed to leave the classroom
at any time! When you leave the room you need to sign out by the
door.
Visitors
When someone comes to the door, you are expected to stay seated
and work quietly on your assignment until I can return to
teaching.
Announcements
Whenever announcements are being made, everyone is to be
absolutely quiet so all may hear what is being said. If someone
calls into the classroom on the intercom, only the teacher is to
respond.
Substitute Teachers
When I am absent, all classroom procedures are to be followed as
usual. Assigned work will be checked upon my return. I expect
the substitute to be treated with the utmost respect and I will
promptly deal with any misbehavior.
Fire Alarm
Remain calm and quiet. Stand up in the row next to your desk. I
will walk to the door and direct each row to exit, starting with
the row closest to the door. Be sure to stay in a single,
straight line because other classes will be evacuating at the
same time. Remain with your class at all times.
Absences/ make-up work
It is your responsibility to find out what work you missed, make
it up, and turn it in to me. This includes both class work and
homework assignments. Our daily agenda will be posted in the
missed work notebook and the located on the white board. Ask me
for tests and worksheets.
Graded Work
Various assignments are worth varying point values, but
assignments will include bell ringer activities, class work
practice; and homework. All work must be turned in on time,
everyday late you loose a letter grade. Any work not turned in
will be recorded as a zero in the grade book.
Homework
This will always be posted on the board. You are to always have
your assignment written down in your assignment book. Remember
it is your responsibility to find out and make up any homework
you may have missed if you were absent.
Grading Scale
A 92 -100
B 83 – 91
C 74 – 82
D 65 – 73
F 64 and below
Dismissal
You are to remain in your seat (or at your desks with the chairs
stacked) until I dismiss the class. The bell does not dismiss
the class. You do not dismiss the class. The teacher dismisses
the class.
General procedures regarding class work/ homework
1. All assignments are to be kept in your binder. Do not
throw anything away.
2. When you finish an assignment that is to be turned in,
put it in your class basket.
3. Put your full name on all papers.
4. If you are absent on a due date, the assignment is due
the day you return.
5. If an assignment is not legible, it will be returned to
be redone before it is graded.
6. If you finish work early, you may sit quietly and read a
book, or do an early finisher. Please do not disturb those still
