Review the definition of health as a combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being. Activity 1: Students can journal about each area of health using a tri-folded paper. Beginning with physical health, have students brainstorm ways to keep their body strong and healthy. Lesson 2 How Health and Wellness are Related Standards/Benchmarks: 1M3 Examine the structure and function of body systems and their relation to wellness. Wellness is a state of well-being or balanced health. Health refers to how you are doing physically, mentally/emotionally, and socially at a particular time. Health is constantly changing. You may feel energetic one day and tired the next. Wellness has to do with how the three aspects of health interact over time. The choices made everyday become a part of long term wellness. One example is what you choose to eat. If you eat a balanced diet you enhance wellness. Making wise decisions and practicing healthful behaviors each day will enable you to achieve a high level of wellness throughout your life.
