Arrival |
Upon arrival, students are expected to immediately have supplies out and begin work on the daily “starter.” Starters are graded assignments and must be completed. |
Seating |
Students are assigned seats and expected to follow the assignment. |
Agenda/Homework |
The daily agenda and homework is written on the board. Students are responsible for writing long and short term homework assignments in their planner. |
Supplies |
Students must have all of the necessary supplies on a daily basis. This includes novels. PLEASE replenish supplies on a regular basis. |
Leaving Class |
Please take care of your personal business between classes. The student planner acts as the student’s hall pass for library privileges. Students will not be allowed to leave the classroom for any reason without their planner. |
Library |
Students are allowed in the library before school and during lunch in order to check-out books or make copies. ELA classes are scheduled to visit the library monthly. Students will NOT be allowed to leave class in order to check out books. |
Book checkout |
I have several paperback books available for student use. Because students are at a higher reading level, some of the books are advanced. Each student knows what types of books he or she is allowed to read. Choose wisely. If your choices become an issue, you will no longer be allowed to use this service. Please be respectful of my books and return them in the condition they were borrowed. |
Book reports |
Students are required to read TWO independent novels above the 950+ Lexile reading level per quarter. Students will take a reading counts test on one book. For the second book, students will write a book report, provide a visual and give a book talk. |
Novels |
In some cases, students will be required to obtain the novel of study. All students are encouraged to obtain a St. Tammany parish library card. Novels will be announced approximately two weeks in advance. |
Typed assignments |
All typed assignments must be: 12 font, Times New Roman, double spaced, 1" margins. |
Graded work |
NEVER discard any graded assignments. |
