Does the teacher read student journals?

Yes, but not often enough. If a student has an entry he/she would
like the teacher to read, the journal should be placed on the
teacher's desk. Likewise, if there is a topic the student does
not want the teacher to read about, he/she should not include or
write about it in the journal. I am required by law to report any
writings which include disturbing information.

What novels will the class be reading this year?

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie during 4th 9 weeks
for our mystery unit; The Devil's Arithmetic by Jane Yolen for
the 3rd 9 weeks for our Holocaust unit. There will also be a
novel during 2nd 9 weeks, but I am not sure which novel it will
be at this time.

Do students have homework on a regular basis?

Yes! Most homework is completing projects and assignments given
in class. I do remind students that reviewing notes given in
class is also their homework. Please note that homework is
written in a designated area of the chalkboard each day and
whether I post it here on the website or not, once it
is written on the board it is ASSIGNED!

What does a Reading Counts Lexile mean anyway?

There is a poster in the library that shows each level and the
corresponding grade level reading level that is equal to the
lexile score. Basically, a score of 1200 is 12th grade level.
1500 is adult.

What does the # mean in STI?

The number sign means that a student did not turn in the
assignment in question and should check with the teacher about
getting the assignment in as soon as possible.
