Grading Policies/Class Rules

RULES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Be on time

·         Tardiness causes distractions and therefore is unacceptable

·         Tardies are turned into the office and tracked. There are consequences for this habit

2. Be prepared

·         Have everything you need when you enter the class

·         NO ONE is allowed to leave (you can’t learn when you aren’t in class). I give a hall pass each nine weeks- if not used it is extra credit at the end of each nine weeks

3. Be respectful (to yourself and others)

·         Stay seated; keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself; raise your hand to speak; speak and act appropriately.

                        4. Be responsible

·         Follow directions the first time

·         Do not make excuses

·         You are expected to keep up with the reading, taking of notes, and completion of assignments, either in class or out of class

·         REALIZE THAT EVERY ACTION HAS A CONSEQUENCE!

5. Be hard working

·         Do not waste time

·         Complete all assignments neatly and correctly

·         Many of the assignments and projects in this class are group work. You are expected to do your share of the work. If I observe that you are not doing your share, you may be removed from your group and required to do the project by yourself - this is only fair for those that are really doing the work.

·          Do not whine or complain about assignments, projects or taking notes. The goal of school is to give each student a well-rounded education so that they may be successful after graduation, whether that means going to college or getting a job.

·         Stay organized. The volume of information and handouts you'll have is tremendous. You are expected to keep track of your own assignments, be prepared for tests, and know important due dates. The school has provided you with an Agenda Book to help you here. Use it!

**Keep all food, gum, candy, and drinks out of the classroom!**

**Cheating of any kind will result in an unacceptable grade!**

**All school/parishwide rules are to be followed!**

            Consequences:

1.     Warning- verbal, visual, and/or written

2.    Theme Assignment and/or lunch detention and parental contact

3.    Parent Teacher Conference (phone or e-mail)

4.    Referral to office

Grades:

Grades will be given on, but not limited to, class work, projects, labs, 2 Current Event articles, and tests. 80% of the 9 weeks grade will come from the above listed “classwork” and the remaining 20% will come from the nine weeks exam. Topic/chapter tests will be worth 200 points, labs worth 50-100 points, and all other tests/grades will be worth 100 points. There will be a daily “science starter” to be turned in at the end of each week worth 50 points (10 points per day). Work that is worth 100 points or more and is turned in late will have 10 points per day per 100 points deducted from the final grade. Work will not be accepted after it is late 3 days.  Grades worth less than 100 points will not be accepted late.

Graded Papers:

Graded papers will be kept in the ISN under the Graded Work tab. It is very important to keep them there. If there is ever a question about a grade discrepancy the only way the grade will be changed is if the graded paper can be produced.

Outside assignments (reports, projects, Current Events, etc) and unfinished classwork are NOT considered homework and will receive a formal grade. Students will be made aware of point value for each assignment.

Grades can also be checked on STI home.  If you do not have the pin number and password to access this it will be mailed home soon from the school board or you can ask the front office here at FJH to mail it home to you.

Students and parents should monitor class progress using STI.

Homework:

Homework consists of, but is not limited to: defining vocabulary and any “worksheet” type review of topics. The most important part of homework is to review your notes nightly. Students must bring in any written homework on the day it is due. Homework will not be accepted late. It is worth 20 points. Students will not be allowed to go to their locker to get forgotten materials. All of us here at FJH are striving to help you become more responsible and self-disciplined.

Absences/Missed Work/Late work:

When a student is absent for any period of time, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what they missed and to make it up. It is in your child’s best interest to be in class every day. There is a daily assignment folder that lists what was done daily. I also have a website that can be checked to see what was done in class that day. You can also e-mail me and find out what was missed. If a test/quiz is missed it is the student’s responsibility to schedule a time to make it up. It is in the student’s best interest to make up all work as soon as possible after returning. I do give deadlines for making up work. (NOTE: Late work is not the same as make-up work.  Late work is work that is missing not due to an absence, but due to a time management or work habits issue)
