Week 1

Oct. 12-16

Scrambled eggs lab

Begin nutrients unit.

Discuss and list nutrients

Bring in food magazines or advertisements

Create nutrients poster. Cut out 5 different food pictures that are examples of the food sources of the 6 nutrient groups and glue to paper.

Due beginning of class Tuesday.

Week 2

Oct. 19-23

Pancake Lab

Turn in nutrient poster.

Review the nutrients. Test Friday on Nutrients.

View video of the food pyramid and complete a written quiz on the video.

-Discuss foods that belong in each food group.

-Review nutrients for test tomorrow.

-Create a poster to show what foods belong in each of the five food groups.

Complete a written test on the 6 nutrients.

-Complete the food groups poster.

Week 3

Oct. 26-30

Cookie lab

-Students will identify their favorite foods from the 5 food groups and plan a meal containing their favorite foods.

Discuss food groups, their nutritional values and serving sizes for each

Discuss fats, oils, sugars and salt.

Week 4

Nov. 2-6

Review for My Pyramid test

*Complete a written test on My Pyramid

*Complete worksheet - Plan meals for one day that meet your My Pyramid Plan requirements for the number of servings of each food group.

-Turn in MyPyramid Plan and the meals for one day worksheet.

-Discuss and practice reading food nutrition facts labels

-Practice comparing nutrition facts labels

Discuss information found on food labels

Week 5

Nov. 9-13

Find nutrition facts labels for foods students eat. Use computer lab.
Begin chapter 30 Desserts
Define "Words to Know" p. 319
Silently read chaper

Define types of cakes and give examples

-Discuss how to prepare cakes

List and discuss types of cookies and examples.

Discuss pies and pasties.

week 6

Review for chapter 30 Desserts test

-pop quiz

-complete written test on chapter 30 Desserts

-create a food face out of favorite foods

-begin Christmas ornament project

-Continue Christmas ornament project
