Participation in Chorus indicates your understanging that
studewnts will be required to participate in after-school rehearsals and
concerts and will receive a test grade for each of these activities.
80% Daily Grades: Tests and
Quizzes (both written and performance-based*), Exercises and Activities
(including sight reading, rhythmic reading, vocal techniques, and written
exercises), and Daily Participation** (including effort, attitude, and having
all music and supplies).
20% 9-weeks exam
* Chorus is a performance-based class. Therefore,
participation in all concerts and after-school rehearsals is mandatory and
will be graded. Attendance will be taken at the
event's call time. Tardies will be recorded and points lost. Although students
are always notified well in advance of all after-school and evening events,
parents are also encouraged to check the calendar frequently for scheduled
rehearsals and concerts.
** Because chorus is performance-based, appropriate daily
participation is imperative for the ensemble to function at the highest level.
Students will receive 10 points each day for participation, but will lose
points as follows: 3 pts. (each) missing supplies, 3 pts. (each) disruptions
that effect rehearsals.
If a true emergency situation arises, parents
must get in touch with the teacher prior to the event by email
(sharon.mcnamara-horne@stpsb.org), phone (875-7501), or letter. If the absence
is excused, a make-up will be scheduled after school at the teacher's earliest
convenience. This will access the student's knoweledge of and accuracy in
singing the concert literature.
Late assignments: All assignments
are graded and expected to be completed by the due date. This may include the
preparation of assigned music. If an assignment is one day late, 30% will be
subtracted from that grade. If it is more than one day late, an automatic "0"
will be earned. homework cannot be turned in for late credit if the
answers have been discussed in class on the day it was due.
Make-up policy: Only work missed
during an excused absence may be made up. The length of illness will determine
the length of time allowed for makig up work, not to exceed one week. It is
the student's reponsibility to get missed assignments and to schedule
make-up tests upon their return to school. Make-up tests will be given
before or after school.
