Piano Grading Policy

Grading Policy for Piano Classes:

See policy on late assignments and make-up work below.

80% Daily Grades:

Quizzes or tests, both written and performance-based

Written assignments, homework, other in-class activities

Daily Participation - including being prepared, appropriate class participation and effort, and attitude

Weekly performance tests

Important because piano is largely a “lab” class, appropriate daily participation is imperative. Students will receive 10 points each day for participation, but will lose points as follows: 3 pts missing supplies, 3pts disruptions that affect class activities or focused practice time, 2pts missing bell ringers

20% 9-weeks exam

Late Assignments: It is expected that any assignment given will be turned in on time. This may include the preparation of assigned music. If an assignment is one day late, 30% will be subtracted from that grade. If it is more than one day late, an automatic “0” will be earned. Homework cannot be turned in for late credit if the answers have been discussed in class on the day it was due.

Make-up Policy: Only work missed during an excused absence may be made up. The length of illness will determine the length of time allowed for making up work, not to exceed one week. It is the student’s responsibility to get missed assignments and to schedule make-up tests upon their return to school. Make-up tests will be given before or after school.
